The upcoming first-ever original Scooby-Doo anime series, officially titled
Yokoso Scooby-Doo! (which translates to "Welcome Scooby-Doo!"), has been officially acquired by the free streaming platform Tubi. The series will feature iconic franchise voice cast members, with Matthew Lillard reprising his role as Shaggy Rogers and legendary voice actor Frank Welker returning as Scooby-Doo.
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation with animation production handled by Japanese studio OLM—known for their work on
Pokémon—the series marks a massive structural and aesthetic pivot for the 57-year-old franchise. The series shakes up the traditional Mystery Inc. formula by moving away from the full ensemble. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Fred, Daphne, and Velma are sitting this adventure out while Shaggy and Scooby head across the globe.
In the series, Shaggy and Scooby travel to Japan on what is intended to be the "ultimate foodie adventure". But the duo accidentally unleash hundreds of mythical monsters that begin wreaking havoc across the country. To save Japan, they team up with an entirely new cast of characters, including Scooby's uncle Daisuke-Doo, a magical girl named Yume, and a tech genius named Takumi.
The series is being positioned for both domestic streaming and traditional overseas syndication. In North America, Tubi holds the exclusive broadcasting rights. Internationally, the series will broadcast on Cartoon Network. While the series is officially greenlit and moving forward, an exact premiere date has not yet been announced.
