Danny McBride to Direct G.I. Joe Movie for Paramount

Ive only ever seen McBrides acting in comedy movies and didnt know he directed. I am interested in seeing how this film turns out!

I am hopefully. McBride is quite talented and Gemstones did have a lot of good dramatic story arcs. I'm pretty sure he directed the back story episode with Bradley Cooper, which I thought was well done. Having a small team investigating Springfield seems like a good way to start.

I'm excited to see what McBride does - he's got a good track record and a decent variety of previous output. Being a fan for me is less important than wanting to tell a good solid story - fans can be too precious with a property and outsiders can bring a good fresh view as to what is the core of the concept that works and intelligent evolutions - but having an affection for the universe is a good start. It'll be interesting to see where this goes.

Hama's writing on GI Joe has been meh at best for years. Long drawn out stories that go nowhere, all the redundant Snake Eyes characters and boring new characters. The zombie mutant arc and the cyber ninjas are just awful. If it wasn't for GI Joe I doubt he'd be working in the industry for years. The first 120 issues were mostly great. The last 30 issues of the original run were pretty terrible. Danny Mcbride makes quality, well written content so I'm willing to go with him. Plus he's a fan.

Stop overthinking, stop being meta, and just hire people who are genuinely passionate about such projects.

I never read Lord of the Rings, but, man, that production team did, and they put their love on the screen. Same with James Cameron and the Titanic tragedy. Guess what? People showed up. Crazy, I know.

At this point this is great news. There are plenty of other talented screenwriters, who do not have that many controversial background stuff which is the last thing our fandom needs.

Well at least they seemed to have abandoned moving forward with the terrible Transformers x Joe crossover they had teased at the end of Beast wars movie, that made my skin crawl, so thank you for that.

but like in all reality how hard can it be to make a good G.I. Joe Movie? like I could write one today.

Here's my pitch:G.I. Joe is the codename for America's daring, highly trained, special mission force.Its purpose: To defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless, terrorist organization determined to rule the world.Pay me, Hollywood!

It's weird that the success of Sonic, Mario, and, to a lesser extent, the early MCU movies didn't convince people that reimaginings are less successful than faithful versions. Just make the source material and you have a built-in audience. Change it radically, and you alienate the built-in audience. And a G.I. Joe movie is never going to attract enough casual fans to compensate for alienating G.I. Joe fans.

It is interesting, though, that his idea resembles strongly an episode from the original TV series where a Joe crosses into a world where Cobra has won and G.I. Joe is the underground.
