60th Anniversary Star Trek Documentary With William Shatner To Release In Regal Cinemas

Deadline has reported that the Star Trek anniversary documentary The Sixty-Year Mission: How Star Trek Changed Television, And The World is getting an October 9 stateside release at Regal Cinemas. The documentary explores the beginnings of the original Star Trek television series and includes interviews with Star Trek icons such as William Shatner, Walter Koenig (Ensign Chekov), and George Takei (Lt. Sulu). Shatner is also serving as an executive producer.

Mark A. Altman, producer and author of the Star Trek oral history titled The Fifty-Year Mission, takes on the role of writer-director, with Michael S. Broder from Galaxie Pictures as the producer. Broder has stated that the film's release will feature Star Trek talent in theaters for question-and-answer sessions.

Additionally, the film includes contributions from Gene Roddenberry, Jr. (the son of the original Star Trek creators) along with various Star Trek writers, directors, producers, and critics, as well as celebrity fans and stars from other Trek series, including Jonathan Frakes (The Next Generation), Brent Spiner (The Next Generation), Gates McFadden (Picard), Ethan Peck (Strange New Worlds), Robert Picardo (Voyager, Starfleet Academy), Christina Chong (Strange New Worlds), Denise Crosby (The Next Generation), and Nana Visitor (Deep Space Nine).

The synopsis reads: “This epic documentary reveals how bold artistic choices, behind-the-scenes conflicts, and groundbreaking ideas came together to create an enduring television classic. Through exclusive interviews and never-before-seen archival materials, The Sixty-Year Mission uncovers that truth is indeed stranger than science-fiction.”

The project is being produced by Altman2 Entertainment, Vital Signs Entertainment, and Galaxie Productions, with Aaron Rattner serving as the producer.

The executive producers are Mark A. Altman, Michael S. Broder, Daren Dochterman, Ashley E. Miller, Alan Pao, and Thomas P. Vitale.

La-La-Land Records is set to release the soundtrack album.
