Weekend Box Office: No Stopping Spider-Man

Spider-Man: Brand New Day dominated the domestic box office during its second weekend, pulling in an estimated $145 million. This performance marks the third-best sophomore weekend in history, trailing only Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($147 million). The film has now earned $653 million in North America after two weeks and crossed the $1 billion milestone globally in just six days, ranking as one of the fastest blockbusters to reach the mark.

While holdovers Brand New Day and The Odyssey took firm control of spots 1 and 2, there were four new films that debuted in theaters over the weekend that made it into the Top 10. One Night Only, a romantic comedy starring Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro pulled in $5.7 million to claim the third spot. Super Troopers 3, the latest installment in the comedy series from the Broken Lizard team, earned $4 million for fourth. And Ice Cream Man, a new horror feature brought in $2.01 million for eighth.

Then there was CatVideoFest 2026, which managed to crack the Top 10 while playing on just 255 screens, earning $568,414 to take the final spot. The annual theatrical event, distributed by Oscilloscope Laboratories and curated by filmmaker Will Braden, brings together about 100 funny, heartwarming, and offbeat cat videos in a family-friendly 70-minute program.

Unlike most viral-video collections, CatVideoFest is not available online; it is designed specifically for theaters. The event has a charitable focus, with participating independent cinemas partnering with local animal welfare groups, shelters, and cat-focused charities. A portion of ticket sales supports cats in need, and some venues pair screenings with pop-up adoption events.

Because the festival operates as a rolling tour, dates and local charity partners vary by city throughout August.
