Warner Bros. Pulls Controversial Supergirl Promo

Warner Bros. and DC Studios have officially pulled a behind-the-scenes promotional featurette for the movie Supergirl from YouTube following intense fan backlash over the apparent use of generative AI-created concept art.

The backlash erupted immediately after the studio posted a promotional video highlighting the movie's digital release. Internet users and industry critics flagged a specific scene in the featurette. In it, director Craig Gillespie and actor Jason Momoa are shown on set discussing the visual design for the DC anti-hero Lobo. On a laptop computer in front of them, open internet tabs and image-generation interfaces clearly display what appears to be AI-generated concept art of Momoa as Lobo.

Fans quickly criticized the studio and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, pointing out the hypocrisy after Gunn previously made viral statements strongly condemning AI-generated art and pledging to support human VFX artists.

Despite the featurette being pulled from social media, the film is still scheduled to release on 4K Blu-ray on September 8. It is currently unclear if the controversial featurette will be altered or completely omitted from the physical bonus discs.
