Walt Disney Studios has officially announced a new Kingdom Hearts series for Disney+, revealed during the D23 event in Anaheim.
The series is being developed in collaboration with Kingdom Hearts creator Tetsuya Nomura and the creative team at Square Enix. Rather than simply adapting the games, the project will introduce an original story designed to expand the beloved Kingdom Hearts universe while bringing its iconic characters to a new audience.
“Kingdom Hearts has captivated gamers everywhere with its unique blend of adventure and imagination,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family. “There’s something really exciting about taking a world fans have spent years exploring through the games and bringing it to life in a completely new way.”
Davis added that Nomura’s involvement will help ensure the series stays true to the spirit of Kingdom Hearts while offering longtime fans a fresh way to experience its world.
