Tangled Live-Action Film Sets 2028 Theatrical Release, Rounds Out Cast

Disney’s live-action adaptation of its animated classic Tangled is headed to theaters March 31, 2028, the studio announced.

The film’s first footage, shown at D23, offered only a brief glimpse at the upcoming reimagining. The sequence opens on Rapunzel’s impossibly long blonde hair spilling down a set of medieval stone stairs before the camera rises to reveal actress Teagan Croft in the title role. The footage then cuts to Kathryn Hahn emerging from behind a doorway in a tunnel-like alley as the villainous Mother Gothel, exclaiming, “Rapunzel!”

Disney also unveiled several new additions to the cast. Caitríona Balfe (Outlander) will portray Rapunzel’s long-lost mother, while Elliot Cowan (The Crown) has been cast as King Frederic. Patrick and Hugo McPherson (Pear) will play the Stabbington twins.

The newly announced cast members join Croft and Hahn, as well as Milo Manheim (Zombies) as Flynn Rider and Diego Luna (Andor) as a new character, Hawthorne.

The live-action Tangled is the latest Disney animated classic to receive the studio’s feature-length live-action treatment.
