Jon Favreau’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Miniseries Sets February 2027 Disney+ Release

Disney unveiled a first look at Jon Favreau’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a live-action and hand-drawn 2D animated hybrid series, during the D23 fan event in Anaheim. Written, directed and executive produced by Favreau, the three-part miniseries is set to premiere on Disney+ in February 2027.

The voice and live-action cast includes Albert Brooks, Amy Sedaris, Kathryn Hahn, Steve Martin, Al Madrigal, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Mykal-Michelle Harris and Ryder Allen.

Created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1927 for Universal Pictures, Oswald holds a special place in Disney history. After Universal took control of the character in 1928, Disney and Iwerks went on to create Mickey Mouse, establishing the character who would become the company’s defining icon.

The Walt Disney Company reacquired the rights to Oswald in 2006. The character returned to the spotlight with the 2010 video game Epic Mickey, which marked the first time Oswald and Mickey appeared together. He subsequently made his big-screen return after an 85-year absence in the 2013 animated short Get a Horse!.

Favreau’s series marks the latest chapter in the long-running revival of a character whose history is intertwined with the origins of the Disney brand.
