Kieran Culkin to Lead Voice Cast of Disney’s Upcoming Animated Film Clay

Walt Disney Animation Studios is adding a new original animated feature to its slate, with Clay set to arrive in theaters in November 2028. Oscar and Emmy winner Kieran Culkin will headline the voice cast as Flip, the film’s unlikely protagonist.

Disney announced the project during its Entertainment Showcase at D23, where Walt Disney Animation Studios chief Jared Bush shared the film’s unusual premise.

Clay follows Flip, a reluctant and less-than-inspiring mentor who is tasked with guiding his village’s newest student: Mushi, a literal ball of clay brought to life. Overwhelmed by his responsibilities, Flip flees in the middle of the night, only to discover that Mushi is impossible to escape—and brings plenty of chaos wherever they go. The pair soon find themselves traveling through a fantastical forest, with Flip forced to keep Mushi alive while navigating an adventure far beyond his abilities.

Culkin's previous voice work includes episodes of The Simpsons, Krapopolis, and Solar Opposites, as well as the 2025 theatrical version of Animal Farm.
