Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Renewed for Second Season

HBO Max has renewed Stuart Fails to Save the Universe for a second season, just four episodes into the 10-episode run of the comedy’s freshman outing. The series premiered July 23.

The Big Bang Theory spinoff comes from creators Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn and Bill Prady, with Lorre and Prady having previously co-created the CBS hit. The series stars Big Bang Theory alums Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie, with several other original cast members set to appear in guest roles.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe centers on Stuart Bloom (Sussman), the comic book store owner first introduced on The Big Bang Theory. After accidentally breaking a device built by Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter, Stuart inadvertently unleashes a multiverse Armageddon and is tasked with restoring reality.

He gets some help along the way from his girlfriend, Denise (Lapkus); geologist and friend Bert (Posehn); and quantum physicist Barry Kripke (Bowie), whose assistance comes with a healthy dose of aggravation. As Stuart and his allies attempt to repair the damage, they encounter alternate-universe versions of familiar Big Bang Theory characters.

The series marks the fourth entry in the Big Bang Theory franchise. The original sitcom ran for 12 seasons on CBS and became one of the network’s highest-rated comedies. Its prequel, Young Sheldon, concluded its seven-season run in May 2024 and subsequently spawned Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, which premiered on CBS in October 2024.
