Brent Spiner Says New Gargoyles Animated Series is in Development

Disney’s Gargoyles may be headed back to the small screen.

Brent Spiner, who voiced Puck in the original animated series, revealed that a new Gargoyles animated series is in development during an episode of Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny, the podcast he co-hosts with fellow Star Trek: The Next Generation star Jonathan Frakes.

The pair were joined by another TNG alum, Michael Dorn, who also appeared in Gargoyles, voicing Coldstone and Taurus. Frakes, meanwhile, played series antagonist David Xanatos.

“They’re doing Gargoyles again,” Spiner said during the conversation.

When Frakes pointed out that rumors of a revival have circulated for years — including a previously announced live-action adaptation — Spiner clarified that the project he had heard about was animated.

“No, no. I was told this morning,” Spiner said. “It’s another animated series.”

Disney has not formally announced the project, and details regarding its creative team, voice cast, format or potential release date are not currently known. It also remains unclear whether the new series would continue the original story or reboot the franchise.

Created by Greg Weisman and produced by Walt Disney Television Animation, Gargoyles premiered in 1994. The series followed a clan of ancient gargoyles who awaken after centuries of stone sleep and find themselves living in modern-day Manhattan. It ran for 78 episodes over three seasons.
