A feature documentary chronicling the life, career and enduring legacy of late Minecraft creator Technoblade is in the works, with Candle Media’s Candle True Stories producing with financing from Riot Games and Hypixel Studios.

Titled Technoblade Never Dies, after the catchphrase of the hugely popular California-based creator, the film is being made with the full support and cooperation of Technoblade’s family. Riot Games and Hypixel Studios will donate their profits from the film to charity.

The project is just entering production and does not yet have a release date or distribution deal. The producers plan to launch the film on the festival circuit, with a major festival premiere followed by a theatrical release and broader distribution.

Documentary filmmaker Steven Lake is directing the feature, which aims to tell the story of the young man behind the anonymous online persona for the first time. According to Candle True Stories, the film will draw on intimate access to Technoblade’s family and friends, hundreds of hours of his own content and stories from the global community he inspired.

Technoblade began making Minecraft videos as a teenager with the goal of reaching 10 million YouTube subscribers. He hit that milestone in late 2021, only months before his passing. Throughout his cancer treatments, Technoblade continued communicating with fans with the humor and resilience that had become his trademark. He died in June 2022 at age 23. In his final video, titled “so long nerds,” his father revealed his real name, Alex, to fans for the first time. The family has otherwise maintained a private profile.

His online legacy, however, remains substantial. Technoblade’s YouTube channel now has nearly 23 million subscribers, while his influence continues to reverberate across gaming culture. In an touching tribute, his iconic crowned-pig avatar was featured in 2025’s A Minecraft Movie.

The documentary will examine what Candle True Stories describes as the “extraordinary relationship between creator and community,” featuring stories from fans around the world whose lives were shaped by Technoblade and exploring how an online fandom became a source of friendship, connection and collective grief.
