HBO has revealed three key additions to the cast of its
Harry Potter series, with Lenny Rush set to portray Dobby the House-elf, Billy Barratt cast as young Tom Riddle and newcomer Bonnie Hill joining as Ginny Weasley.
Rush, 17, is a British actor, presenter and comedian best known for the children’s series
The Dumping Ground. He has also appeared in episodes of
Doctor Who and
Taskmaster. Dobby is introduced in
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and goes on to play a significant role later in the series.
Barratt, 18, will portray Tom Riddle, the young version of the character who eventually becomes Lord Voldemort. Barratt is currently filming Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of the video game
Life is Strange, in which he plays antagonist Nathan Prescott. He also appeared as a young Dmitri Smerdyakov in
Kraven the Hunter.
Hill will take over the role of Ginny Weasley beginning with the second season. HBO has not previously announced why Gracie Cochrane, who played Ginny in the first season, will not return.
Returning cast members include Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
Last month, HBO announced that Game of Thrones star Kit Harington will play Gilderoy Lockhart. The role was previously cast with Nicholas Hoult, who exited the series because of scheduling conflicts.
HBO will premiere the first season this Christmas, with episodes continuing into early 2027.
