Spider-Man: Brand New Day claimed the top spot at the domestic box office for a sixth straight weekend, earning an estimated $23.5 million over the four-day Labor Day frame. Its North American total now stands at $923.26 million, making it only the second film to reach that mark and putting it within range of overtaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.66 million) as the highest-grossing domestic release of all time.

Fueled by Brand New Day, along with films like The Odyssey and Michael, the domestic summer box office reached a record $4.76 billion from May 1 through Labor Day, surpassing the previous high of $4.755 billion set in 2013.

The top new film this weekend was the crime thriller By Any Means, which debuted at No. 4 with an estimated $9.3 million through the Labor Day holiday weekend. Directed by Elegance Bratton, the film stars Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and is loosely inspired by real historical events involving FBI informant and mafia enforcer Greg Scarpa.

The only other “new” film to hit the Top 10 was the re-release of Cars, earning $7.8 million for the sixth spot. The iconic Pixar movie returned to the big screen for a special limited theatrical run celebrating the film's 20th anniversary.

Here are the Top 10 Domestic Box Office results for September 4-7:

1 - Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Sony) - $23.5 million
2 - The Odyssey (Universal) - $17.3 million
3 - Coyote vs. Acme (Ketchup) - $14.5 million

Practical Magic is a fun old favorite. Cant wait to see the sequel. I think its based on a sequel story to the original novel, which is a plus.So glad most of the original cast has returned, as they all had great chemistry, and from watching the interviews its clear they still do.

Supergirl even underperformed the very low $45 million estimates people were making before it opened. What a complete disaster. And what a death blow Gunn has dealt to one of my favorites superhero characters. Why he and Alcock couldn't tell and promote a normal Supergirl story is beyond me. Oh well.

Making 44 million dollars a weekend is hardly "dominating". Disclosure Day seems like a flop, financially, word of mouth is already out that it is boring and ends just after delivering its message.

I didn't like the first movie but MK2 was great. Very fun movie if you're a fan of the games.

I'm pretty happy Cronin's Mummy flopped. Focusing body horror and gore on a child is a little extreme.

Notice how the McFarlane Varang figure sold out pretty much everywhere over the weekend as buzz about the movie and the tent scene grabbed headlines.
