Greta Gerwig’s Narnia Film Sets 2027 Theatrical and Netflix Release Dates

Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of C. S. Lewis’ The Magician’s Nephew will arrive in theaters worldwide on February 12, 2027, before making its Netflix debut on April 2. IMAX audiences will get an early look beginning February 10, with sneak previews planned exclusively for the large-format screens.

Titled Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, the film marks Gerwig’s first journey into the world of C. S. Lewis. The filmmaker is writing and directing the fantasy adventure, which explores the origins of Narnia and the events that ultimately lead into the beloved mythology of The Chronicles of Narnia.

The cast includes Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough, Susan Wokoma, David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell, with Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep also appearing.

For Gerwig, the project carries a personal connection. She has spoken about reading The Magician’s Nephew as a child and being captivated by Lewis’ imaginative creation of Narnia. Netflix says the filmmaker has been developing her own vision for the story while bringing the fantasy world to a new generation.

The movie will also reunite Gerwig with two of her Barbie collaborators. Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt are composing the original score, with George Drakoulias serving as music supervisor.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is based on Lewis’ 1955 novel, which explores how the magical land of Narnia first came into existence and serves as a prequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The seven-book series has sold more than 120 million copies worldwide, according to Netflix.

The film is produced by Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal, Vincent Sieber-Smith and Gerwig, with Patricia Whitcher, Douglas Gresham and Melvin Adams executive producing for the C. S. Lewis Estate. Netflix will distribute the film domestically, while Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle distribution outside North America.
