A few days ago,
NBC news ran an article about "
Kidults, those adults that are buying toys for themselves and are the biggest source of growth for the industry". Since then, we've been able to witness
anger,
rejection of the term, and even
riots (
okay, maybe not...) from toy collectors worldwide, violently rejecting the label.
ToyFarce investigated...
Now, to be fair, "
Kidult" (
or "Adulescents"... which is worse) is not really a new term and has existed for some time. It's only becoming a bit more mainstream now because of the
NBC news article, which was picked up by several other news outlets after that. Multiple toy collectors reported being called "
kidults" by colleagues and relatives since the article came out.
"
Oh, yeah, they used... the k-word... left and right at family dinner." said Nick, a long time toy collector from New York. "
We're having family over for the holidays, and of course, they all heard about that article. It's like they posted that article just before Christmas on purpose... I'm a grown-@$$ 37 year old man, and I don't want to be called anything that has 'kid' in it."
"
The article defines the "Kidult" group as '12 and older'. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but when you're 12, you're not buying high end collectibles... your parents buy them for you! Do we really need to label everything?"
Anyways, it's the
holiday season. Hopefully, people will have forgotten about that label over Christmas dinner.
ToyFarce and
Toy News International wish all of you happy holidays!

I agree. I've seen nothing but childish reactions to a joke label (one that no one will use and will be forgotten in a year)
