Hold on to your calendars! In a shocking turn of events,
Mezco's announcement of "
One:12 Day" on January 12th (
or 1/12... get it?) has sent shockwaves through the toy industry. Other brands are now
furiously brainstorming ways to claim calendar dates for themselves, realizing they’ve missed out on a golden marketing opportunity.
ToyFarce investigated...
-
Hot Toys admitted that they could have picked
January 6th (
1/6) as "
Hot Toys 1:6 Day", but feared facing backlash for ignoring international date formats (
as Europeans would write it as 6/1).
-
McFarlane Toys and
NECA are battling over
January 10th (
1/10), even though they've always called it
7" scale, rather than
1:10 scale.
NECA might settle by getting
January 4th (
1/4) instead, for their other popular scale.
-
Hiya Toys,
Joy Toy,
Acid Rain and a few others are arguing over who gets
January 18th (
1/18), leading to talks of a shared "
One:18 day" for all those brands.
-
Super 7 is wondering if a month would be more suitable, or if they should just declare the
7th day of
every month theirs instead.
-
Funko is trying to claim every Friday as "
Funko Friday", but nobody really cares.
- Vintage
Star Wars and
G.I.Joe collectors are disappointed that there aren't
75 days in
March so that they could pick
3/75 as their day.
Toy industry insider are jokingly calling this event the '
Calendar-gate'. A representative from a very popular brand told ToyFarce: "
Honestly, Mezco won with One:12 Day. If we’d thought of it first, our PR team could’ve been on vacation right now."
What other toy-related day would you pick?
