In a shocking yet extremely predictable turn of events, toy collectors across social media erupted in outrage this week after
Mattel revealed its upcoming
DC Comics action figures, despite a
Mattel representative (
Hi, Steve!) clearly stating, in the caption below the image, that the newly revealed line was a kids-focused toy line, which could be compared to the
Spin Master DC action figures rather than the collector-oriented
McFarlane Toys ones...
ToyFarce investigated...
Witnesses report that the caption, which explicitly mentioned that this was not the adult collector line and that the collector-focused
DC Comics figures would launch in
January 2027, was bravely ignored by thousands of collectors who immediately rushed to the comments section to declare the line "
terrible", "
embarrassing" and "
proof that McFarlane Toys was better".

Exhibit A...
"
This is unacceptable" said one collector while comparing a brightly colored, kid-friendly Batman designed to survive being thrown at a wall on by a 7 year old to a hyper-detailed McFarlane Toys figure meant to stand motionless in a glass display case forever."
McFarlane would never make something like this!" he added, seemingly unaware that McFarlane Toys was producing an entirely different type of product for an entirely different audience.
Many collectors also demanded answers from Mattel, despite those answers already being clearly provided in the post itself. "Why didn't Mattel explain what this line is? I guess it's a line for kids, then... maybe?" asked several users, directly beneath the explanation of what the line is.
Others proudly demonstrated their ability to skip crucial information altogether before writing lengthy posts or posting long rants on
YouTube about how disappointed they were. "
I didn't read the caption, but I can tell you this line is trash" wrote one collector in a 12-tweet thread, later clarifying that reading captions is "
optional" and "
not the point" (
we'll chose to do the same about future tweets, then. Glad we sorted this out!)
Confusion peaked when collectors insisted on comparing the new
Mattel kids line to
McFarlane Toys' adult collector figures, despite the two existing in completely different realities: one designed for children, the other designed for adults who insist they're "
just buying one more Batman".

Some collectors went even further, expressing anger that
Mattel did not immediately reveal its
adult collector DC line, scheduled for 2027, a full year early. "
Why would Mattel show kids toys now?" asked one outraged fan, apparently shocked to learn that children still exist. Perhaps, the info was out there all along... we'll never know.
At press time,
Mattel had reportedly confirmed once again that this was a kids line, prompting collectors to once again decide to pretend they couldn't read.
More news at 11:00,
assuming anyone reads it...
*ToyFarce News is parody news for laughs and not meant to be taken seriously!
ToyFarce, how could you overlook the fact that by removing torso articulation, Mattel is actually targeting the collector crowd?!! Not me of course, I have a six-pack... of Fortnite figures MIB!

This^^It's again a fantastic new feature yet to be implemented to the most vocal fandom to read all the letters. I know I know, it's basically a very new thing, and a bit scary too...
Everyone pinning their hopes on the collector line might be disappointed. If it's anything like Masterverse (the collector focused MOTU line), you will get about 3 figures a quarter.

Agreed that this was so predictable. I saw numerous YouTuber "influencers" that were posting videos seemingly completely unaware that these were the replacement for Spin Master rather than McFarlane, even though it's basically their whole job to know better. However I also tend to think that they were choosing to be willfully ignorant because negative news seems to get more views.
Whatever. I'm so glad to be moving on from McFarlane in the DC space. They gave me some stuff that I do truly enjoy, but it was few and far between. The whole Platinum chase idea alone made finding the few figures that I did want painful and expensive. My favorite stuff from McF was probably the vehicles. I also found the McF line to be one that the figures tended to look better in the package that outside of it due to ridiculously long legs, the diaper, oversized hands and odd textures, among other things.
I'm cautiously optimistic and looking forward to seeing the Mattel collector offerings down the line. It's unlikely I'll ever buy much of anything from the kids basic line, but not impossible if they were too make rare characters not seen in their more expensive offerings or done before by DCD/DCC, Mattel or McF. This happens occasionally with their WWE figures.
