A local collector has reportedly had enough of the "
corporate greed" driving up toy prices, despite apparently being quite
enthusiastic about buying those same toys and immediately reselling them for double the price on
eBay...
ToyFarce investigated.
"
I remember when these figures were $20..." he reportedly said, while creating a listing for the latest $32.99
Marvel Legends figure at $79.99 plus shipping. The collector has been particularly vocal about recent price increases from
Hasbro and other toy companies, calling the rising cost of action figures "
unacceptable" and insisting that corporations are only interested in squeezing every last dollar out of collectors.
"
It's all corporate greed, I tell you!" he added. "
Those companies are now selling their figures at the price scalpers used to sell them! Because of that, nowadays, *I* can barely sell any of them at triple the price. Sometimes, I have to settle for a 50% markup, when before, I could easily get 2x MSRP... Freaking corporate greed!"
"
Listen, I'm just trying to make a little money..." he explained, after he had purchased twelve copies of the same figure specifically so that nobody else could buy them at retail price, so he could flip them. The collector insists there is nothing hypocritical about this: According to him, corporations charging more for toys is "
corporate greed", while he charging more for toys is "
taking advantage of the market". He reportedly sees no meaningful distinction between the two. (

At press time, the collector was reportedly preparing another angry social media post about scalpers, while refreshing his eBay listings to see if anyone had bought the
G.I.Joe Classified Series figure he was selling
for 250% over MSRP.
