Marvel Legends collectors are reportedly furious following the announcement of
recent reissues, accusing
Hasbro of ruining the hobby by making previously difficult-to-find action figures available to people who actually want them.
ToyFarce investigated...
The retro card
Animated Series Spider-Man and the
X-Force 3-pack are the latest
Marvel Legends figures to receive another release among others, much to the delight of newer collectors and those who missed out the first time around, and were scared of the secondary market prices. Unfortunately, their happiness has been
overshadowed by the deafening screams of collectors who already own the figures... "
It ruins it by allowing more people to own them!" one collector said. "
See, by reissuing popular figures, Hasbro accidentally made collecting possible again! How dare they?!"
Several collectors have expressed concerns that the reissues could "
devalue" their original releases, despite having previously insisted that they would never sell their collections. Meanwhile, resellers are facing an even greater crisis, as figures that once sold for hundreds of dollars on the secondary market could now potentially be purchased for something
dangerously close to their original retail price!
Can you imagine?
"
Hasbro is destroying the secondary market by making toys available!" screamed one seller, who had listed an
X-Force set for $250 just hours before the reissue was announced. "
How am I supposed to make money off people who missed the preorder window if Hasbro keeps giving them another chance? That's bad for business, 'HaSbLow'!"
Collectors have now demanded that
Hasbro immediately stop releasing toys
they already own and instead focus exclusively on releasing figures
they personally want, preferably ones that are extremely difficult for everyone else to obtain. We'll make sure to update you as the situation develops.

But mine was rare!"
cries collector as other people get to enjoy same toy...
*ToyFarce News is parody news for laughs and not meant to be taken seriously!
Ah yes, the eternal promise of wealth for all those mass-produced lower-pricedcollector's items! I'm actually grateful to Hasbro for allowing me to feel free to open these figures, pose 'em and throw out the packaging. Mondo and Mezco on the other hand...!
Lol I know this is a joke, but are there actually people salty about this?
I recently sold some figures on ebay and discovered that there is now a 14% sellers fee for listings in the hobby/action figure category. Even if you have a rare figure, ebay eats a huge chunk of your profit. Its kind of a drag. I think by time I did the math including the selling fee, taxes, and shipping costs, the lot of figures I had sold came out to like $8 a figure for me. Nothing I sold was particularly valuable, but if you are looking to make a huge profit off of action figure sells, its probably not going to happen.
I do get that some collectors are into rarity or whatever, but Marvel Legends has never really been a line that focuses on variants or special limited edition type stuff for the most part. McFarlane seems to still have that mentality when he releases stuff, but thats not really Hasbros thing. I appreciate that Hasbro does rereleases.
Scalping hasn't been profitable in the action figure market since COVID. A few convention figures or weird off releases occasionally become rare and shoot up (who would have guessed that the only comic WW from McFarlane would increase in value when he produced 20 of them and didn't do more until this year), but on the whole the economics just don't work out. If you buy a figure for $30, you'd have to basically sell it for $40 or more just to break even with eBay fees. There is a lot of complaining about "scalpers" stealing figures when preorders sell out fast, but that's not what is happening. What is happening is that McFarlane, Target, and others simply don't put a real quantity up to begin with.

The secondary market might go down in the toilet. People are going to be frustrated. Scalpers gonna scalp...Oh no... Anyway!
