Collectors were left outraged this week after people started to find the new
Big-Figs Optimus Prime at their local
Target stores, a massive 30-inch figure made by
Shushu Papa (
in collaboration with Hasbro). The figure features minimal articulation (10 points) and a price tag of just
$34.99, which naturally led collectors to immediately compare it to
much more expensive, highly detailed and articulated HasLab projects.
ToyFarce investigated...
"
Thirty-four dollars and ninety-nine cents, and THIS is all you get?" asked one collector while standing next to several premium
Transformers figures that cost considerably more than
$34.99. "
Where are the hundreds of points of articulation? Where are the butterfly joints? Where are the interchangeable hands? Where are the LED lights? Why doesn't it transform into a truck and then back into a robot? IT'S ALL HASBRO'S FAULT!".
(
The thing is: this 30-inch Optimus Prime figure is made by ShuShu Papa, a new global toy company founded by industry veterans that revived the popular oversized Big-Figs line originally launched at Jakks Pacific. Hasbro has very little to do with it, other than letting ShuShu Papa do Transformers figure. But I digress...)
Several collectors also pointed out that
Hasbro had previously released significantly more detailed
Optimus Prime figures, seemingly unaware that those figures were also significantly more expensive and, in some cases, approximately
one or two feet shorter.
"
This is why Hasbro is losing touch with collectors!" another fan explained. "
I saw a HasLab that had incredible detail, articulation, lights and accessories, so naturally, I expect this $35 toy designed to be a giant, affordable Optimus Prime to have exactly the same features... "

At press time, collectors were reportedly preparing comparisons between the
$34.99 Big-Figs Optimus Prime and a
$699 Robosen Optimus Prime, concluding that
Hasbro had once again failed to provide enough value for the money.
More news at 11:00...
as collectors continue to demand that every toy simultaneously be bigger, cheaper, more detailed, more articulated, and somehow still profitable.
*ToyFarce News is parody news for laughs and not meant to be taken seriously!
All I wanna know is if it can hold the costume rifle or swords they sell around Halloween. I'd love to get one of these if I can place a costume Ion Blaster in his hand. The swords are less cool but would still be cooler than having him standing there with nothing.

We're going to climb the price Mount Everest inch by inch. We are at thirty-somethin'.....
I mean for something that looks hollow and cheap, it does more than expected. But it is kinda funny Hasbro had to outsource a project like this. It can't be cheaper than going in-house (if they haven't all been laid off yet). Maybe it's worth it to redirect collector rage at contractors?
