It's Wednesday and you know what that means: ToyFarce review!

This week, we're having a look at the gorgeous Alien Figlite Xenomorph (Designed by Yoshi), and the BeastBOX Xenomorph from 52Toys. I have been waiting for that FigLite figure since it was announced and really love the design, and it's finally here! I grabbed the BeastBOX version with it for fun, but sadly, no fun was had, as those are not easy to transform!

52Toys is a chinese company, known for their BeastBOX toys, a line of transformable characters (robot animals,...) that can turn into a cube, to be stored in a box. Earlier this year, they announce product from the Alien franchise, including a beautiful Xenomorph 1/12 scale figure, designed by japanese plastic artist Yoshi (no, not Super Mario's friend, another one). The packaging is great, the Xenomorph figure looks like it's in stasis inside, with the window tinted in orange. I would completely understand keeping this one in the box.

This figure is stunning. It comes with an extra 'little mouth' attachement, 3 pairs of hands, and 2 tails, one having a bendy wire. The figure is very light, a lot lighter than I expected from the weight of the box. It's basically weightless. I now understand the name "FigLite" more. It has a ton of articulations, but feels very fragile, so be careful when handling it. It moves beautifully, some of the articulations even feel a bit loose without being loose (the shoulders especially). It's just that they move very easily and feel loose, but stay in position when you release them. The upper teeth can be removed to be switched with the little mouth attachment. The hands are easy to switch, although there is an extra wrist part (to hide the peg) that will fall down everytime you change the hands. I also had one his left waist attachments that kept popping off, but I imagine it might be just mine. It can get in all sort of xenomorph poses, apart from anything that requires his head looking up (like crawling) as the tubes in his back are in the way.

Comparison with NECA Alien 'Big Chap' Xenomorph

The BeastBOX Xenomorph was my first BeastBOX, and I think I'm good. Out of the box, in Xenomorph form, the figure is fun and has tons of articulations (a lot more since it transforms) and the little mouth pops off when you press a button in the back of the head (yay, spring loaded action!). Then, transforming the figure in box mode made me question my life choices. I tried with the instructions provided, but couldn't quite get there. I watched 2 different youtube videos of people transforming it, and after over 45 minutes, managed to make it very close to box mode (it doesn't exactly fit in the box, so there must be something wrong somewhere). It was not very fun, and I think it will stay in box mode for the near future.

The Beastbox one looks like a facehugger got a hold of a large BBTS package. I actually think it's more effective as a cube with that head coming out of nowhere like it was hitching a ride on an escape shuttle. For the record, most Beastbox figures are blindingly easy. This is probably one of their most complicated yet because of all the spindly appendages.

The Figlite looks very respectable and I like the styling that went in to making it. Smallish, though you could say it was in-between molts or something. Shame about the limited head movement, but that wouldn't be a huge drawback for me. Nice review TF!

Great article about both figures and the pictures are really helping to figure out what are diving into when purchasing. So, the FigLite figure is a pretty decent one tbh, I can see this working with so many other lines. The BeastBox stuff is interesting. I have a soft spot for the older creations because of the compatibility to the Diaclone toys, but this looks to be a different animal. At least we have a clearer view now. Thanks again.

Thank YOU for always checking the reviews and articles? It means a lot to me!

Would you say that the figlite version merits the price? When this was initially announced I was stoked to see a 1/12 scale option since the Neca ones tend to better suit 7in scale, but the price was what deterred me. Alien is arguably my favorite franchise of all time, so I always have more room for another xenomorph, but you could almost get 2 Neca ones for the price of this one alone, so I am kind of torn.

I have never owned a beastbox figure but have been tempted in the past by some of the dog robot ones, but if this one is as difficult to transform as you say, then I am going to pass. Complicated transforming toys tend to be more of a burden then actually enjoyable imo.

It's a beautiful figure, and as a one-off/different take on the xenomorph by an artist, I'd say it's worth it. The NECA ones are also very good though, so it's all a matter of if you like it enough or not. It's a lot smaller also. I can take a picture next to other lines if you want to compare the size.

For the BeastBOX, it seems to be that this one in particular is a tough one, so it might be that the other ones are easier and more fun. I totally agree with the complicated transformations, it just takes all the fun out of it. I stayed away from a lot of third party robots for that.
