ToyFarce review!
This week, we're having a look at one of the latest addition to the
Plunderlings line, the
Plunderbeaks Captain Longbill and
Berserker Quervo from
Lone Coconut! I have loved the
Plunderlings since the first wave, it's one of my favorite '
indie toy' lines, so I'm always excited when they add new things to the line. There were talks about birds and frog-like creatures joining the line via a
Kickstarter, but it seems plans have changed and the
Plunderbeaks were directly released first, with the
Plunderfrogs following them very soon (now shipping!). Winged Plunderlings with cool-looking beaks?
Say less...
"The Plunderbeaks are feathered bandits who don't bother hunting for treasure. Why bother adventuring when you can just steal it from those who did the heavy lifting?"
The figures come in the usual crate-like boxes, which have extra parts and slits on the sides to add ears, or in this case,
wings. I don't have space to display a lot of boxes, but I love the little attentions like this, it's always fun.

Captain Longbill has a white body and a beak like a pelican. He comes with
3 pairs of hands, a
magnetic captain hat and a
sword. They use a similar body as the
Plunderlongs (tall, thin ones, same articulations), with 2 ball joints on their back to attach the wings. I love the colors on that figure, the blue on the wings and orange and yellow on the beak. The wings are separated into 3 parts with ball joints, which allow for various poses.

Berserker Quervo joins the dark skinned
Plunderlings, and he looks gorgeous. He comes with
3 pairs of hands, a
magnetic helmet and a
rope with with a
hook blade. His wings go from dark to light grey. '
Quervo' meaning '
Crow' in Spanish, I want to assume that he's supposed to be a crow, but the beak has a very different shape and since
I'm not an ornithologist, I don't know what bird that would be. The beaks are articulated, by the way, which allows a few goofy expressions. The more traditional
Plunderlings came with 3 heads each, but I'm guessing adding the articulation to the beak meant there wouldn't be more extra heads. My only nitpick is the lack of flight stands, I had to dig out a couple of MAFEX stands to pose them flying. It would have been nice to have even a simple one, so they can be in the air.

There was a third
Plunderbeak in this '
wave', but I wasn't really into the colors or accessories it came with, and just picked these 2. The
Plunderfrogs were just announced earlier this week, and they look amazing. Looking forward to review them!
