What's been coming over the horizon for a while, is more news that Hasbro and Skybound Entertainment and are working on an adult animated series based on the Energon Universe comics.

The project is said to feature a crossover of the Energon Universe original comic series G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Void Rivals characters. What is said to be lead by "showrunner" Joe Henderson, who worked on the Netflix Lucifer series, is mostly at a concept stage now with the series being shopped around to potential streaming platforms. As reported on Deadline, today:
Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment has teamed with Hasbro Entertainment to produce Energon Universe, an adult animated series based on the comics of the same name created by Kirkman. Joe Henderson (Lucifer) is attached to write the adaptation and serve as showrunner on the series, an epic crossover of G.I. Joe, Transformers and Void Rivals mythology, which is expected to be taken out to buyers shortly.
This is not the first animated series we have seen recently for the Transformers with Hasbro's Cyberworld and Takara TOMY's Wild King streaming series on Youtube. The new shows aimed at younger audiences, have struggled to get traction online or at retail. For better or worse, an animated series based on the gritty Skybound Energon Universe aimed at adults, appears to have low interest out of the gate if they have are announcing the show without a network host already.

What is quite interesting is this crossover was heavily suggested as the follow up to Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, which appears to be on hold after Transformers: ONE didn't meet expectations at the box office. We will have to wait and see if this is a run up to, or a replacement for the theatrical release.
