DC Comics Icons 6" Superman Figure Review & Images

Today we take a look at the upcoming DC Comics Icons 6" Superman figure from DC Collectibles, due out at comic and specialty shops in June. Like the other Icons figures we have seen in this wave, Superman sports nice paint applications and pretty cool accessories. Besides the standard two pair of hands (open and close-fisted), we get a mini figure of Superman's Fortress of Solitude robotic caretaker Kalex. Sporting 4 points of articulation with moveable arms, head and lower body, Kelex has a nice metallic gold paint with darker gold paint wash. The figure looks like a robotic ET which is true to the comics, and I really like the way the visor looks with the dark red translucent plastic. Kalex also comes with a stand made of clear plastic that makes it look like he is floating in the air. While on the stand, the figure can be a little top heavy but overall it does the job.

Superman himself while good isn't perfect. Most notably I have some issue with the paint used on the eyes. A pinkish tint is around the edges of his eyes. I am not sure if this was done deliberately to be some kind of pre-heat vision effect, but it throws the look of the face off a bit when looking at it in certain light. I also think the muscles on the upper arms just above the elbows look a bit off when the arms are fully extended and you look at them from the sides. Finally the gap in his red trunks where the legs meet the waist is more noticeable from the side then I would have liked. Still despite these few issues, I think the overall figure is nice. I like the sculpting on the head with the little curl of hair on his forehead and the attention to detail with his cheekbones and jawline. Other than the eyes, I think the figure has really strong paint applications including the details on the sculpted S symbol on his chest.

While I am not a huge fan of the classic Superman look, preferring the more modern New 52 look, I think overall this might be the nicest 6" version of the character we have with this outfit. I like the sleeker build used on this figure opposed to what we have seen with Mattel's DCUC figures in the past.
