C3 Justice League Throne Room Battle

C3's Justice League Line brings to collectors an interesting proposition of the articulated joy that Minimates promise along with the building fun of construction blocks.

The package is bright and vibrant, no problems in catching kids'/collectors' eyes here. The dynamic image on the cover portraying Superman and Darkseid in battle is very well composed, and thankfully the contents of the package live up to the promise of boundless fun. On the back of the package, we see a blueprint of the throne room next to other products in this series.

Little effort is required in assembly, the instructions are simple to follow. The orange block behind the throne is a single piece, so you'll have this mini playset up in no time. When assembled, its a joy to behold. For a relatively small playset, the play options are abundent as compared to toys at the same price point. Here we have Superman approaching Darkseid, who's waiting in anticipation for their showdown.

Darkseid, acting regal and all, seated upon in his throne, literally talks down to Superman.

When Darkseid feels too confined in his throne room, he can take a breather by hovering around on his throne and getting a breath of fresh air outside.

When Darkseid's in a nasty mood, he can just pop behind the orange block/holding cell and taunt Superman, who's immobilised due to the krytonite chains. Yup, bad boys have all the fun.

I must admit that it was thoughtful of C3 to make these construction blocks compatible with Lego bricks. But the quality of the plastic used for these blocks do not feel as durable as Lego bricks and seem rather brittle to the touch. It makes one wonder whether attaching and detaching the blocks from Lego bricks might damage them.

I've personally nothing to add to what has been said about Minimates. They're small, have a nice amount of detail and possess excellent articulation, which exceeds all expectations of figures at this size. It's great that Art Asylum got the licence for DC figures, and having Superman and Darkseid make up the first volley of figures is a well-thought choice. We can only hope the list of DC figures grow enough to match Marvel's current selection.

For those who are wondering (and love comparison shots), here's how the Minimates match up against their Mattel counterparts.

This set comes highly recommended as the playability offered in its combination of construction blocks and minimates proves to be a winning mix.
