Appearance 9/10
All four figures share the same body sculpt in their Starfleet uniforms. Generally the proportions are good. The knees look a little low, but it’s not very noticeable on display. The worst part of these figures is the arms. The transition at the shoulders is terrible and makes the arms look disproportionate. In addition for Kirk and Sulu the yellow is different on the arms and torso, and it’s very noticeable on display.

There is very nice texturing on the shirt to reflect the look in the new movie. On the torso the shirt is soft plastic while the arms are hard molded plastic. The texture difference isn’t very noticeable and is a nice touch on the figures. The most important part of the figures are the faces. They look very similar to the live actors and there are a lot of details put into the facial features. The neutral expressions don’t work well for Scotty, Sulu, and Kirk though. However the paint application is excellent, and the skin tone is even varied from figure to figure. Overall these figures are a good representation of the movie actors, despite their problems. Stylistically though it will be hard to display them with figures from other lines.

Articulation 8/10
These figures have ball joints in the upper body, and pin joints in the lower body. There are ball joints in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and abdomen. There are pin joints for the hips knees and ankles. The elbows and knees both bend a little under ninety degrees. The ankles can twist but do not move up and down. The hips move forward and backward only, not out to the side.

Poseability 5/10
The balance of these figures is simply awful. Because the hips, knees, and ankles cannot be rotated out to the sides, the legs cannot be positioned for good balance. Because of this the included stand is necessary for almost all posing and display. In addition since there isn’t good range of motion in the torso it’s hard to do any good dynamic poses. Overall don’t expect these figures to do much of anything except just stand together on the shelf. They look good together, but the lack of balance and range of motion really hurts how well these figures can bring the characters to life.

Final Judgment: 22/30
On the surface these figures look great, but I was a little disappointed in their articulation and balance. They look good together on the shelf, but unless you really like the movie, it may be worth sticking to figures of the original cast. Diamond has some figures coming up that will have about the same articulation, but may look a little better.
