Batgirl #63
Batgirl vs. Deathstroke

At the end of War Games, many changes were made to Batgirl both in and outside the book. The new creative team of Anderson Babrych and Ale Garza has jumped on the book. As far for the changes to the character, Batgirl now patrols the streets of Bludhaven, once the home of Nightwing. So with the current changes, has the book becomes better or worse?

The story starts with her morning routine of practicing. Something she has done since she was a child. It is nice how much detail is put into it, by describing the reasons for doing it. Its purpose is to bring the mind which is slowed by sleep back into her body. The reason I also point out this daily routine is that it shows off her abilities of handling a sword. I always wondered how she was able to fight with a sword in Justice League Elite but have yet to show her ability to do so in her own title.

I don’t want to explain the whole story, but some more interesting things happen. Penguin is having meetings in both Batgirl and Robin with a certain society of villains. Penguin is also fed up with Batgirl and Robin in general. So he has been sending villains to take care of the two. Batgirl seems to be the bigger threat of the two as he is sending Deathstroke to take care of Batgirl.

Now the fight, while I won’t go into detail (you have to at least read that yourself) was quite nice. Batgirl has the ability to read people. The way he describes his movements was interesting.

“His body moves like a ..choir. Many Different Voices. All at once. But singing too fast. Too loud. Too much to follow. The meaning gets lost.”

The greatest thing about this issue was how it ended as well; I can’t stress anymore to buy this issue.

Batgirl’s character in general is so interesting. She isn’t the type of Bat character we are used to. She is so different and unique. I also feel that the writer got Deathstroke’s character down perfect.

Andersen Gabrych has been doing a fantastic job on this title. It is almost like he created Batgirl because you can tell he has so much love for the character. His Detective Comics run was great, but I think he may have out done his run with this current run on Batgirl.

Ale Garza has really impressed me in this book as well. Compare this book to his Young Justice/Titans Graduation Day. There is so much of a difference between the two. He has really improved and his Batgirl is one of the best I’ve ever seen. His Robin was great as well. It is way better then Damion Scott’s version of Robin right now.

I can not stress it enough to try this title out. The book has been so hot since War Games ended. I highly suggest this title to any comic fan.

I give this title 10 out of 10. Great read and has me begging for more.
