TNI's Cool Custom Of The Week: 5-Level Death Star Playset By Muftak

by Jay Cochran
February 08, 2004

This week's TNI Cool Custom Of The Week was done by Muftak. He has created a multi-level Death Star playset from Star Wars: A New Hope. The playset will be a 5 story playset that consists of modulars that make up different areas of the spacestation.

The first level includes the blast chamber area where the Empire uses it's destructive weapon to destroy unsuspecting planest like Alderan and the Trash Compactor Room.

Each level will is contained in a stackable modual so you can place each level on top of the other or use it separately.

The next level contains the detention center for interrogations and break-outs.

As with the first level, the second level is done in a modual that can stack on the first level.

Part of the wall for this level is completely removable so that the cell is accessible for play when the whole thing is put together.

Level 3 contains the computer room for downloading schematics and hiding out in.

The door even opens and closes to the room.

There is even a knob built in that turns to allow the image on the main computer screen to change.

The other part of this level includes a elevator hub.

And the main hallway outside the hanger bay for lightsaber duels.

As with the previous 2 levels this one stacks on top.

The 4th level contain Tarkin's Control Room.

Cards can be exchanged on the one wall so that the viewscreen can either show the destruction of Alderan or the schematic of the Death Star about to blow up the Yavin base right before the station itself was destroyed by the Rebels.

The other part of this section is another hallway for Han and Chewi to chase Stormtroopers down.

Close the blast doors, close the blast doors.

And as with all the other levels, this one also stacks on top.

You will notice the 3rd and 4th floors seem to blend right into each other. The reason for this is that there will be a Tractor Beam Control Tower that will sit in the middle to create a wall between the control room and the hallway, but.

Muftak is currently working on the 5th level (the top for now) which will contain the Tower as well as the doorways for the chasm "swing across" scene--which will have a removable bridge. If you look at these last couple levles, you can see things moving further back in the structure--this will allow the doorways (at the very front of level five) to really open up over a big dropoff. He says it will be pretty neat and after seeing the first 4 levels, we have very little room to doubt him.

Update: Here is a look at the 5th and final level of this awsome custom.
