DSTChuck has released a new Diamond Select Toys Q&A over on their Art Asylum website for your viewing pleasure.

In this weeks edition focuses on Star Trek questions. Check out the entire Q&A below:

Robert Hyrneson
I unfortunately just found out about the Trek Tech Medical Tricorder & the limited run on it. Will another production run be made for this toy at some future date? The demand seems to be there. Thanks!

DSTChuck: Robert, that item was exclusive to Entertainment Earth. If they think they can sell enough to warrant a new production run we’d be happy to go back and make more.

Tom Whitworth
hi again art asylum, as far as I know you have made objects from 4 star trek series but not voyager, I don’t see why you dont invest into making voyager toys as it had such a huge fanbase from 1995 to 2001 but lost interest when star trek enterprise aired voyager is the fastest and the most elite in the fleet so please art asylum just think of the fanbase you will get if this model is produced and literly you can X10 beat what playmates done with thier voyager model back in 1995 thanks tom

DSTChuck: Its still very possible we’d make a Voyager but for now the feedback we have had from sales and the buyers we’ve spoken to is they do not have as much interest in it as they do with other properties.

Hi, Not so much a question as a comment regarding Q&A 90 (Star Trek). I noticed you mentioned that the lingering issue regarding making the Defiant into a large ship, and I had a suggestion that may work. Different companies such as Furuta and F-toys have made brilliant small-scale non-electronic toys of the Defiant, the Furuta version being very expensive if you can find it. As Furuta seems completely done with the Star Trek line, why not simply buy or rent either their Defiant mold.cast or the one currently owned by F-toys? DST could then make an electronic large Defiant ala the size of the AMT model/Playmates Defiant, and as a pack-in, a small-scale plastic Defiant! This would suit those who want a big Defiant to enjoy all of the details, whilst also giving a small Defiant that is perfectly to scale with your previously released Enterprise-E and Enterprise-D. Possible?

DSTChuck: I suppose something like packing a small defiant in would be possible, but again the electronic one would be out of scale with the rest of the line, which is the issue. Its something fans will just have to accept if the time comes.

Hi, Long time collector of your Star Trek line, I’ve got all of them! Battlestar Galactica too, but let’s focus :-) I have a simple straight foward question for you: Are there any plans for a Jem’Hadar figure from DS-9? They are so bada$$, I know I’d buy more then one. How about a two-pack with a Jem’Hadar and Weyoun? I’m freakin’ out just writing it, imagine how I’d feel seeing it on a shelf with money in my hand…..imagine (softly fading)..imagine…….imagine…………..imagine………………….

DSTChuck: Yes they are VERY cool but right now there are no plans.

Sam English
Wowsers folks, the new Retro figures are coming along well. I’m not sure if there is any way the fans of Mego Trek can thank you enough…though I’m sure buying the figures will be a good start! Hopefully they sell well enough to include a Rand at some point…& hopefully they sell well enough that you may consider Next Generation Retro. And if by some wonderful chance you can delve into TNG, please…for the love of whatever Gods you believe in…make Beverly one of the first characters you release, & not someone you reluctantly threw on at the end of the run. Poor Bev always gets the shaft. Anywho, your upcoming Retro’s are looking awesome…continue the good work.

DSTChuck: We have discussed TNG so we’ll have to see how the new figures sell.

Sean Comeau
Any ides when we will see pre-orders up for Klingon Bird of Prey and either of the Excelsior variants?

DSTChuck: Nope- I can say it will not be offered for official sale by us until we have a sample back from the factory that we think is pretty close to how we want the production model to look and act.

James White
Hey Chuck, I just have one quick question. Can you tell us if the new green shirt Kirk (from the old TRU Romulan wave) has a solid sculpted torso or a rubber shirt? I am personaly hoping for a solid sculted torso.

DSTChuck: James it has the rubber shirt, just like the other figures.

Dave L
Hello: Any hope we will see TNG related toy prop replicas ? Like a phaser/tricorder ? **************** I have a good idea: A lot of Disney toys emphasize-interaction– “thinking toy” Any hope that a future tricorder would be somewhat interactive ? or how about making a laser tag like toy for phasers ? Thanks

DSTChuck: Its possible , we’ll have to see how the new releases we’re working on sell. Right now we have no plans to add more play like functions to our ships or other electronic based toys.

Roger Cowgill Jr.
Why is Art Asylum not making the new Star Trek ships? Art Asylum is 100 times better tham Playmates!

DSTChuck: Playmates was granted the license for the movie. DST did discuss the movie with CBS but they decided the Playmates proposal was what was best for the franchise.

DevilDog Doyle
Putting the economy, sales, and costs aside. Why has DST stopped producing all action figures (Star Trek, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, etc) for now and what appears to be the long distance future when companies like Sideshow Toys, Hot Toys, Dragon, etc keep selling theirs with price points 6-13 times more than yours? It really appears that you are doing the minimum requirements to keep these licenses alive, like Electronic Arts and their former NASCAR license before it was revoked.

DSTChuck: I am sorry but since I have no idea what the sales numbers are for other companies or what their cost might be I can’t answer your question..Also not sure how any rational business can put aside the economy, cost and sales when they make their decisions. I can tell you we have NO reason to cancel a project that we’ve invested SO much in if its break even or close. Perhaps if we did charge 6-13 times more these projects would be more viable?

Sean Comeau
Hey There guys! Before my question, which is quick and easy, I have one thing to say. I read all the time your Q&A blog and I must say kudos to how you handle the complainers. I am amazed as to how many people still complain about the quality of your work. After spending years dealing with the lackluster quality of Playmates, you have gone above and beyond and have come out with some amazing items. From the complaints about the microscopic errors of items to even the complaint about your logo (A classic which made me laugh), you handle the completely absurd complaints with grace. The only one that had merit was the Ent-D neck which you repaired. Again, thank you. My question is, do we have any idea when we will see the Klingon Bird of Prey up for at least pre-order? Thanks, and keep doing great things!!!!

DSTChuck: Sean, glad you like the stuff we’re doing. We all love what we do here and want to do the best job possible. In that vein there were lots of complaints (all valid) about how late our Enterprise D was, so we’re not going to open the ships up for order until we’re very confident we can meet our advertised ship date.

Justin Bisson
The Star Trek ships you’ve produced so far are incredible, and amazingly detailed. Now if you could go above and beyond this with a new Enterprise-E that would be incredible. Give it the detaching saucer that it is supposed to have, give it the battle bridge, and the hole nine yards. I’d also like to see some screen accurate TNG, DS9, Voyager products like the phaser, tricorder, communicators, hypospray, engineering tools, etc. Keep up the good work. JT

DSTChuck: I don’t think right now we have plans for all new improved versions of any of the ships we’ve done before. That’s something we’d look at further down the road.
