DSTChuck has released a new Diamond Select Toys Q&A over on their Art Asylum website for your viewing pleasure.

In this weeks edition focuses on Minimates questions. Check out the entire Q&A below:

Kevin Connelly
First of all, let me say to keep up the great work on Minimates! Now onto the questions… 1. With us getting a complete 90s Excalibur team soon due to the upcoming box set (which is much appreciated especially for its updated Nightcrawler and Juggernaut), and further 90s X-Force figures coming with the Shatterstar/Cannonball 2-pack, will we also see the 90s X-Men teams completed in maybe a 2-pack TRU exclusive or something? We only really need a 90s Colossus to complete the Blue/Gold teams of the 90s X-Men, but a 90s Forge and/or Banshee (maybe with variant Giant Size X-Men green/yellow costume Banshee) would also be cool since they also worked alongside the team during that time in comics. Please make 90s Colossus to complete the team. at least. 2. The Minimates M.A.X. line is a really cool idea that also allows fans to have police, fire department, and military mates interacting with the Marvel or other minimates sets, but are there plans to maybe diversify the figures? They all seem to suffer from ’same face’, and at the same time, a lack of women, or ethnic groups. 3. Is all the latest Minimates being mainly devoted to X-Men and its other X-Realted material due to the fact that next summer is going to be very Avengers focused with the Thor and Captain America movies coming out then? That should do for now I think for questions… Thanks for your time and look forward to the answers!

DSTChuck: 1. I think its possible, we’re aware of the team collectors and when it makes sense as you have seen we do what we can to complete what we start but, sometimes it just seems there is not enough time to get to everything. Hard to believe I can type that with a straight face after 40 series.

2. I think you will be very happy with the upcoming four pack release we are doing for specialty stores.

3. Yea I think maybe, that was part of it, also like you noticed with the teams, once we get a good flow going the line plan kind of speaks to you in on direction and you go with it. We knew last year would be Iron Man heavy and this year we’d have to build around the three movies so I guess it ended up being X-Men.

First of all let me say I love all your products and feel you’re doing a great job. As a big fan of the Minimates, I was wondering if there are any plans on releasing an Ecto-1 for the Ghostbusters line like BSG and BTTF ?

DSTChuck: I am sorry but right now we are not allowed to do any vehicles for the Ghost Busters line.

Sidney Fontinele
I really like the minimates collection, i want them all. But i need to say i want more minimates. It would be very cool to see more franchises to this universe. Please bring back the DC Universe it would be so cool to put they against the Marvel ^^ It would be cool to bring the: Star Wars (Minimates based on movie, games and comics characters) Capcom (Minimates based on games like Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Resident Evil, Dead Rising…) SNK (Minimates based on games like King of ghter’s, Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury…) Mortal Kombat (Minimates based on the movie, games and comics characters) WWE (could be 3 lines WWE Smackdown, WWE RAW, WWE Classics and WWE Superstars) Rockstar games (Minimates based on games like Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto, Manhunt series. Gi Joe (Minimates version from the toys would be awesome.) Minimates based on Movies: Indiana Jones (Minimates based on the movies like the Back to the future) Harry Potter (Minimates based on the movies like the Back to the future) Lord of the Rings (Minimates based on the movies like the Back to the future) Kick-Ass (Minimates based on the movies like the Back to the future) More minimates based on games: Killzone Left 4 Dead Bioshock Mass Effect Icon characters (Like Freddy krueger, Jason and alike) Bring they to us ^^ By the way please make more obscure characters from marvel universe. We have so much wolverines, spider-mans and alikes.

DSTChuck: Sidney, I am glad you like the line, we’re happy to have you as a fan! The DC topic has kind of been addressed, it’s not something we can do anything about. We’ve told DC we’d LOVE to do more and the ball is in their court. As for the other licenses, I think you have seen we’re pretty aggressive about signing new licenses but we also want to be controlled and not flood the market with hundreds of Miniamtes each month. I don’t think our design team, factory or fans would like that. Some of the ones on your list have been and are being considered. Thanks for the suggestions.

Andrew Davis
Have you considered packing in 343 Guilty Spark as an accessory (or as his own mate?) with any of the Halo minimates? No company doing Halo has done him yet, and he is my favorite Halo character.

DSTChuck: Andrew I have to be honest we’ve never considered that – never say never though.

Dave McDonald
Hey guys long time fan here. I even make a weekly comic with my minimates. I was a member of the Art Asylum Collectors Club way back when and was wondering if you would ever consider revisiting that idea with something similar to what other companies do. I know I would definitely pay a premium price for Marvel Minimates that would typically not get made. It would even be nice to get accessories, extra parts or collectors cases. Thanks for the years of fabulous product. Besides comics I have never collected anything as long as I have been with minimates.

DSTChuck: Dave, glad to have such a devoted fan. Its collectors like you that let us try new things and see what happens. YES we have thought about the club, but we don’t want to start anything we can’t follow through on and we just don’t have the staff for it. I think it would be cool but not right now.

Megan Smith
Will you ever do a Ghostbuster Headquarters for all of the fabulous minimates? Maybe even a cardboard version that can be folded and inserted into the pack? Sorry if this question has been asked a lot, but my husband and I just discovered them and have purchased ALL. Now we want a Headquarters for them. They are awesome by the way!

DSTChuck: We have messed around with using cardboard for playsets as those of you still waiting for the last playset know. The problem seems to be the cost to make them translated to a higher retail than we think fans will want to pay for something that “is only cardboard”. We’ve not given up but its something that is going to require more research and development. Glad you like the Ghost Busters!

Kyle Weston
I’m a huge fan of Doctor Who and of minimates, and back in 2008, I saw some designs for Doctor Who Minimates. Since then, nothing has surfaced. Is there any progress on the Doctor Who Minimates front?

DSTChuck: We developed those for another company that held the license and we were told they did not get enough positive feedback from the buyers to move forward with the line.

Terry Flora
I just got the Slime Blower Ghostbusters 4 pack, and I really like the new “open jumpsuit” print on their inner chest pieces, but Ray doesn’t have one. Why must Dr. Stantz keep his backpack on at all times, while the other guys are hanging out at the firehouse showing off their t-shirts?

DSTChuck: Terry to be honest with you I don’t recall why we did that to poor Ray.

Jeff Gayton
I will keep this brief. Any chance you have the rights to do minimates for the new movie”cowboys and aliens”? it seems like it would be a perfect line for your company. thanks.

DSTChuck: We do not hold the license for that movie – but it does look cool.

Justin Huffman
Chuck, Marvel - Thanks for finally announcing the official line-up for Marvel Wave 38. I am particularly happy with this wave, as it includes quite a few characters I have been anxiously awaiting. That said, there are quite a few members of the Multiverse that are expressing their disappointment with this wave due to the character selection. Has DST given anymore thought to running a “Fan Poll” for an upcoming wave of Marvel Mates, similar to the Secret Wars/Captain America boxsets at TRU? This could really help generate some additional interest for the line, and would allow for an eclectic line of characters the fans really want. Ghostbusters - you recently Tweeted about the RGB line for next year, I can’t wait to see how these turn out! Are the GB Movie ‘mates finished? The 4th boxset was announced, and it is a re-release of some of the ghosts. This is great for those that missed them, but a little disappointing for die-hard fans that are still wanting a GB1 Janine. Will we ever see GB1 Janine in Minimate form? M.A.X - ToysRUs.COM is already sold out of the Police Officer M.A.X. set, and the line seems to be very popular. Can you please give us some more info on what is next for the M.A.X. line? As always, thanks for your time.

DSTChuck: Well Justin I am glad you like the line up and I am of course sorry not every fans is happy, but honestly there is not much we can do. There is really no way to make each line up perfect for every fan. I do think the idea TRU has to go from maybe a list of 6 or 7 down to four works pretty well for them and it does give fans some say into what they will be buying. Even that system is not perfect, we get lots of feedback after those votes that we’ve got the wrong ones in there or that we must have stuffed the ballot box. I think yes for now we’re going to take a step back from the movie versions of Ghostbusters. Maybe we’ll come back to it at some point but as of now all new release for the next year will be RGB. The next release in same family as MAX will be Pirates however we are far from done exploring the MAX universe and are working on vehicles and figure designs and more, right now! Glad you like them!

Enrique Santos
Do you have plans for TNG/DS9 Klingon Minimates?

DSTChuck: Right now we have no plans for more Trek MM, but you never know and it is something we dicuss from time to time.

Matt Strawbridge
Hey guys! I was wondering when that Disney store exclusive set was going to be released. I can’t wait to get ahold of that Thor! And speaking of Thor, do you think with the movie coming up we’ll be seeing any comic versions of other Asgardians? The Warriors Three, Heimdall, Odin, Sif, Balder? Thanks a lot! Matt

DSTChuck: Matt, the set should be in stores now. Yes I think we are looking at more comic Thor but unlike last year, this year Marvel has three movie release so we’re not going to have that large gap of space before and after the movie to get some stuff out like we did with Iron Man 2.

Julian Martinez
Hey,im a long time collector, and i got some questions! 1:Since The Walking Dead has Premiered, its been getting more than awesome reviews, any chance we can see Minimates based on the series? 2:Any chance of TRon Minimates? Now that Disney owns marvel, you cant squeeze something in for your fans?maybe a Kevin Flynn Minimate packed with a Light Cycle 3:since youve got a deal with Sony Minimates,Twisted Metal is Obviously a no brainer, right? Please tell me you thought of that!Especially now that your Minimate vehicles are selling awesome! 4:Any chance of Bioshock minimates? Thanks! Julian Martinez

DSTChuck: 1. I do think Walking Dead would be very cool, we’d have to see if that’s possible down the road. We did look at Tron, it would be very cool but it just did not work out. We’re really not a video game company but we do look at video game properties from time to time to see if they might work for us.

Sam Ford
So we know Wasp has many many costumes. And I love how in the FA Avengers box set yall included parts for several costume variations. Do you think there’s a chance that if/when yall do Wasp again, you can can include pieces to just happen to make her look EXACTLY like she does in Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? I love her in that show!

DSTChuck: We do not have any plans right now to do another Wasp MM. I’m sure we’ll look at her again down the road.

Feroz Nazir
Hi, Very glad to see the increasing number of ‘classic’ heroes and villains. Especially the upcoming White Tiger figure. It is a great solution for the variant figure, especially for those of us that buy complete waves. But I can also imagine that buyers that are only interested in the classic figures feel cheated. In any case, is the interest in classic figures high enough for a classic box set down the road? Speaking of down the road, I was very glad to see the New Mutants and Retro X-Force Minimates and I really hope we will see a few more of them. The New Mutants team won’t feel complete without Moonstar and Magma. And there are a lot of fun characters left for Retro X-Force: Boom Boom, Siryn, Rictor, Caliban, Sunspot. Is there anything else the fans/buyers can do other than buying two/three sets of the New Mutants Box Set to show support for these characters? Staying on the topic of X-Force. Why was Fantomex removed from the X-Force box set? Surely the box set has enough star power with Angel, Psylocke and Deadpool. Why kick out Fantomex and let Wolverine stay in it? We already have X-Force Wolverine! Last, but not least. When will we see more X-Villains? There are so many characters ready to be made into Minimates: Blob, Toad, Avalanche, Pyro, Sauron, Mr. Sinister, Stryfe, the list just goes on and on. In any case, great to see the expansion in lines. I hope it means we get to enjoy Minimates for a long time! Keep up the good work!

DSTChuck: I think we do the best we can at mixing classic characters with newer editorial or newer versions of character. I am sure fans from both sides of the fence would want more of their favorites. I think all fans should do is buy want they want. Don’t buy more than you want just to show interest, we’ve very appecaite that fnas spend their hard earned money on products we make and would never ask them to buy double just to show support. The funny thing with the four packs is it always seems to leave at least one character out that everyone seems to want. Many times we will use those “left out” characters in two packs for TRU and specialty markets. We don’t have anything against X Villains so we’ll just have to see how it goes.

Donny B
I just wanted to ask if you have any plans to release any of the following characters in the foreseeable future: Onslaught, The Watcher, an updated Spiderman 2099, or any characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (I hear there’s a new movie in the works - that may be an ideal time to try acquiring that license) Also, have you considered any outer space themed MAX releases? I know you’re keeping the MAX line pretty realistic as of now, but there is a huge potential for all kinds of amazing looking alien creatures, especially when you can design them however you want!

DSTChuck: Right now we are not considering those Marvel characters, and they are not licensing TMNT so we’ll just have to see what happens down the road. We’ve got more plans for MAX so just hang tight and hopefully you all like what we have planned.
