Indiana Jones Q&A With Hasbro

by Jay Cochran
May 24, 2008
With "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" opening in theaters this weekend, the folks who work on the new Indiana Jone toy line at Hasbro have agreed to do a special Q&A session with us here at TNI in regards to their new toy line hitting shelves now.

TNI: Will we get a Toht figure in the 3 3/4" line, and what are the chances of getting a veriant with a burned off face?

Hasbro: There will be a Toht coming in 2009. You will just have to wait and see whether he has a very cool bonus head in pack..we wouldn't want to ruin any potential surprise. ; )

TNI: Indiana Jones tends to have a lot of religious and political references (i.e., a lot of characters based on members from the Nazi party). For a toy line geared to kids and collectors alike, how difficult has it been to deal with these issues and yet stay true to what these movies are about. I believe it's been said there is not much chance of seeing a Hitler figure in this line yet we have Nazi soldiers. Where do you draw the line, and how do you draw the line for what's appropriate and what's not for a toy line like this?

Hasbro: The figures we have produced are German army figures, which do not necessarily mean that they are Nazis. We will not produce Nazi figures and have removed all political party affiliations and insignia from the uniforms. We can also confirm that there is zero chance of there ever being a Hitler figure in the line - we just would not go there.

TNI: We asked this question awhile back in one of the SW Q&A's but were wondering if there has been any more thought about it. Any chance of seeing some type of Harrison Ford collector pack featuring a Han Solo and Indiana Jones?

Hasbro: We have thought about that, but don't have any plans right now.

Groovy. I'll pick up a Toht.

I'd really like that Harrison Ford Collector's Pack. Throw a Deckard in there and you got a deal.

My Walmart has been blowing through these things. They're at their third or forth restock. Heck, even my local Kmart has pretty much sold through most of what they have.

Indeed, My area is selling pretty well but I have at least 5 walmarts and three targets to look for things though.

They were not selling very fast here at first before the movie was out. I saw the movie on friday and the theatre was packed, saturday morning the figures were wiped out. There was just two figures, no deluxe or vehicles left and they had just gotten in the 12" figures.

Now that the movie is out I think they will start to really sell well.

I just had a thought

We won't see Vogel in his black uniform because the black uniforms were worn by the SS?

I was actually wondering that myself...if Vogel's black uniform might be "too Nazi" for the line. I dunno...maybe as an exclusive somewhere.

Though I have a question: How well does this line seem to be selling where you folks are? Around here it looks to be pegwarming hard enough that I'm beginning to doubt the line lasting very long into 2009. A few items are harder to find than others, but by and large it's everywhere, and not moving particularly fast. Either that or they're restocking almost every day.

Whats Toht ???

He was the Nazi who's face melted when the ark was opened

You know I understand about Hasbro being politically correct but at the same time it was in the movie and it is actual accounts that Hittler was into the occult and odd things as such. Of course, I would not want a hittler figure but a germna figure is ok. The same with the Russians, I can always let them be apart of the Oktober Guard LOL

When are they going to make the bald headed German mechanic who beats Indy up near the Flying Wing and is sliced up by the propellers? That would be cool. I also want a figure of Donovan from last Crusade.
