ShartimusPrime takes a look at the new 1/6 Scale Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Armored Batman figure from Hot Toys. This figure is available for purchase now at BigBadToyStore.com.

Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice. Not everyone liked it, but I must say that I did, and one of the cooler things that came from the movie was Batman's iconic armor that he uses to fight Superman. Today we take a look at the Hot Toys Armored Batman Movie Masterpiece MMS349 1:6 Scale Collectible Figure. I'm about as happy with this figure as most people were happy with the film, so let's get to it!

PACKAGING: Hot Toys typically puts a lot of thought into their packaging, and with this piece it is not an exception. The box mostly has a concrete gray design with a spot varnished/chrome looking Batman logo with Batman and Superman facing off. I like that we can see the city scape in the background as well as some blue trim coming down the center of the package. The back has your typical warning info, the top has a nice silver BvS logo, and nothing much on the sides, but lifting up the initial lid we can see a large image of Armored Batman and the credits for the creators of the piece.

ACCESSORIES: Pretty weak, bruh! Really, not a whole lot going on here, and I really think Hot Toys missed a lot of opportunities to give us some really cool accessories. These accessories are okay at best. The base for the figure is good, and neat. Nice sculpt and paint, plus the useless feature of having the BvS logo standing upright leaning on a kickstand. This is neat I guess, but useless once you try to get the figure on the metal rod and crotch support it comes with. The figure won't fit on there well with the BvS logo in the upright position. The metal plaque is beautiful as usual. The gas grenade launcher with the sliding stock is probably the best accessory. There's also 2 gas grenades, one you can put inside the grenade launcher and the other is deployed. You have to appreciate the level of paint and sculpt on these very small pieces. He has a grapnel gun as well, which I found disappointing. No cable or hook accessory to go with it. Again, painted and sculpted well. There's all these tiny silver screws painted with the upmost precision. We get 5 interchangeable right hands, and only 2 left hands. 1 pair of fists, 1 pair of relaxed hands, and then the right hand we get a grenade launcher holding hand, grapnel gun holding hand, and then one more right hand with the fore finger and middle finger out, and I don't know what for. There's a lot of beautiful silver dry brushing and gun metal paint on these, so the hands look good. There's also an extra set wrist pegs, but I wish they would change their wrist system. These hands are a pain to switch out, and once you have it on there, forget about articulating them. They just wanna fall off as soon as you move them. The grenade launcher hands frustrate me to no end. The demonstration in the instructions is NOT easy to replicate, and the supporting hand/relaxed hand on the left, is sculpted in a way where his thumb is blocking the barrel of the grenade launcher. The figure should have come with an extra left hand with the thumb sculpted where it was out of the way. The grenade launcher hand has been slightly chewed up from me trying to get him to hold it like in the instructions. Very irritating.

PAINT/SCULPT: The best part of the figure is the paint and the sculpt. By now, you may have guessed I'm not the biggest fan of this figure, but it does look fantastic. The figure is littered with cuts and gashes of all shapes and sizes. The paint gets a 10/10 as well. I love the silver dry brushing throughout. Seriously, the cuts and line work mixed with the awesome paint really makes the figure look outstanding. There's also a light up feature. We get the 3 little batteries that require tweezers and a tiny tiny screw driver (neither included). Even without the eyes lit up, it still looks good, but getting them on looks so much better. There's a little bit of blue-ish hue which I really like as well. We get interchangeable faces too. I like that we get the gritted teeth option and the frowning option. The faces are held in with magnets, and they're both easy to swap out. The spikes on the gloves and boots are quite sharp and painted to be the most film accurate than I've seen on any other Armored Batman figure. It's a slight gold added to those parts instead of a very bright gold. The 2-ply cape is great, and I think it was made at perfect length. I love that they added paint to it for not just the dirty/tattered bottom of it, but also the whole back part of it. Unfortunately there's a strap that goes around his chest that is attached to the cape, and the instructions inform us that it is NOT removable. A bit of a shame but not as much of a let-down as the articulation.

ARTICULATION: It's cool that you can see the regular Batman suit underneath the armor on this figure. It looks like Batman really added this suit to his existing suit. Unfortunately it hinders the articulation BIG TIME. The head looks up a little bit, but other than that there's good head movement in any other direction. The butterfly joints at the armpits barely function. The shoulder pads can be removed from the bicep, which I like because it allows for a fairly good range of shoulder movement. Be warned, the regular Bat-suit underneath is a bit fragile, so you can't go ham on this thing. The elbows bend at 90 degrees, and even though there is articulation for the wrists, don't even bother trying to move them. Absolutely NO waist articulation or torso articulation. I accidentally detached the ab armor from the chest armor, so because of that I can get a little bit of ab crunch, but still no side-to-side movement at all anywhere on the torso. The hips move outward only a little, but I've already created a little pee-hole in the crotch of the figure. I've just made life easier for Mr. Affleck. The legs kick forward only a little, and the knees don't quit meet the 90 degree mark. The ankles surprisingly have great articulation! You can move them up and down, left and right, plus ankle pivot . . . but then the figure lets me down again with it's not-toe articulation. They built a joint in there for the toes to move, but they squeak like they want to move without actually moving. I shake my head at you Hot Toys.

HEIGHT: The figure is large! It stands at about 13.5 inches tall, and he's considerably taller than the Man of Steel Superman figure I have. I think the figures scale well together and the height of this figure looks screen accurate to me.

IN CONCLUSION: There seems to be a demographic of Hot Toys collectors that love figures that don't articulate well. I don't understand this, as these figures being articulated is a selling point of the line. Making a figurine with amazing paint and sculpt without articulation is called a "statue". Creating a fully articulated figure out of statue-like paint and sculpt is what makes Hot Toys an impressive toy line for me. Yeah, anyone with that degree of talent can make an Armored Batman statue, but to make one with that level of detail with the ability for the consumer to tap into their own creativity is another level of awesome. Unfortunately, this figure is not awesome! From what I know of what it's like to date a super model, this figure is very similar to that: looks beautiful, but not fun to play with.
