Tron Legacy Deluxe 7.5" Sam Flynn Action Figure

The new Tron: Legacy movie from Disney which is the sequel to the 80’s classic Tron movie is still over 2 months away from being released, but already action figures based on the new movie have started to hit shelves.

Today, we take a look at one of the new Deluxe 7.5” figures from Spin Master. In particular, the new Sam Flynn figure.
The figure seems pretty film-accurate to the images we have seen from the movie, and some nice details really depict the texture of the suits they wear in the movie.

For accessories, the figure comes with a disc that attaches to the figure’s back and what I believe are handlebars for a lightcycle which attach to the figure’s leg. Both are pretty simple but they look nice attached to the figure which also seems to be able to hold both accessories fairly tightly in either hand.

The figure’s biggest weakness comes in the articulation department - due primarily to the figure’s electronic features. The head doesn’t move at all, and there is no chest articulation. It does have ball-joints at the shoulders and on the legs at the waist. You can turn the wrists and there are ankle joints. The figure also has standard non-double jointed elbow and knee joints.

For special features, the figure’s chest lights up, and the figure speaks phrases when you push a button. The figure also has a projection of the character’s face appear in the helmet which has facial expressions as he says stuff. The figure says the following phrases:

- We got to work together, it’s the only way!
- This is it... Come on!
- My name is Sam Flynn
- I’m not a program

It is pretty cool looking and for some, these features may be enough justification to warrant the loss of head and chest movements. For those who prefer a super-articulated figure, you may not be terribly happy.

Appearance 9/10

Playability 9/10
Articulation 6/10
Final Judgment 34/40

Thanks to the folks at Disney Consumer Products for sending us this figure to review.
