G.I.Joe Collector Club Subscription Service Cobra Dice Figure Review

Hasbro and The G.I. Joe Collector Club have teamed up to bring us a limited release line of G.I. Joe figures through a subscription service offered to club members only. Today we take a look at one of the first figures being released through that subscription service with the new Cobra Dice figure to see if it’s one worth adding to your collection.

Check out hi-res images for this figure in our GALLERY below.

Packaging - Unlike the generic packaging found with the current mainstream line of Retaliation figures, these subscription figures come on unique cardbacks similar to what was used for the 25th Anniversary line. The front features cardart of the character with the traditional explosion graphic behind him like we used to get with the old A Real American Hero Line. The main difference between this cardback and the 25th Anniversary line is that a G.I. Joe Collector Club Exclusive logo now appears in the top right corner as well as on the back.

The back of the card shows the top half of the cardart featured on the front with a filecard for the character on the bottom half of the card. These figures will fit in perfectly if you are a MOC collector of the 25th Anniversary line.

Sculpt - The figure incorporates parts from the Resolute Storm Shadow figure that came in the comic two pack with Tunnel Rat. However, this figure has a few differences. His feet have shoes covering them, and this figure uses different arms. This figure has short sleeves on and Cobra branded wrist bands. The vest harness is taken from the Storm Shadow in the wave 4 comic pack with Firefly. The removable mask is the same one that came with the Resolute Storm Shadow we mentioned above. Lastly, the head comes from the Aqua-Viper that was included with the Mantis Attack Craft.

Paint - The figure incorporates purple and black with some silver used on the harness. The color scheme is very much in keeping with the original Real American Hero Dice figure. There were no noticeable paint errors on my figure. He has some Cobra symbols painted on his wrist guards.

Articulation - This figure has the standard amount of articulation seen on the 25th Anniversary figures. If you are familiar with the aforementioned Resolute Storm Shadow, then you know what you’ll be getting with this figure. Since this guy is a ninja, some ankle rockers and hinges wrist joints would have been nice but still he is pretty decent.

Accessories - Dice is packed with a good number of accessories. Besides the aforementioned removable mask, he has a large ax and a double-bladed guan dao. Both are reused from that same Resolute Storm Shadow figure. He also comes with two tiny throwing stars which are from the Renegades Storm Shadow figure. He has two claw-like weapons that would give Wolverine a run for his money. Finally, he comes with the much missed figure stand no longer found in the main line.

Overall - This figure goes great with the Slice figure (or as they call it on the box, The Red Ninja) being released in the first wave of Retaliation 3-packs and is a great homage to the original figure. If this was a regular retail release, I have no doubt every Joe fan from the 80’s/90’s who still collects would want to pick up this figure. The problem is this figure is not released at retail; it’s only available through the Joe Club subscription service or the secondary market. Either way, it means you have to pay a pretty penny to get this one. If you pay for Club membership and sign up for the subscription service, the thing costs $30. If you go through other channels, it’s going to cost in the neighborhood of $50-$60. So is the figure worth that much? Well, I will let you decide that for yourself.
