VIVENDI UNIVERSAL GAMES LOOKS TO THE STARS TO VOICE UPCOMING BATTLESTAR GALACTICA SCI-FI SPACE SHOOTER

New Battlestar Galactica Video Game To Feature Original Cast Members From Show

To help voice its upcoming space shooter, Battlestar Galactica, Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games) has announced an all-star cast of actors. The talent signed to lend voices to the highly-anticipated game includes Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch, who starred as hotshot Viper pilots Starbuck and Apollo in the original television series, as well as Dwight Schultz, known for his roles as 'Howling Mad' Murdock on the A-Team and Lieutenant Barclay on Star Trek: The Next Generation®, and Kristanna Loken, who plays the T-X in the theatrical release, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. The actors will have multiple rolls in the anticipated action title which allows the players to take control of the hottest fighters in the galaxy, and tangle with dozens of swarming Cylon fighters in massive space battles. The game will be available this winter for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system from Sony Computer Entertainment America and the Xbox™ video game system from Microsoft.

Set 40 years before the events of the television series, the Battlestar Galactica game tells the story of a young Ensign William Adama in his first assignment aboard the Galactica. As the young hero, players will have to turn the tide against an overwhelming Cylon fleet as they tangle with swarms of fighters in frenetic space combat over a series of story driven missions ranging from search and destroy and escort sorties to infiltration and reconnaissance operations. To help tip the scales in their favor, players will be able to take control of five different ships including a Colonial heavy bomber and a Cylon Raider, each with their own unique flight models and weapons loadouts.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the hit TV series Battlestar Galactica which tells the story of the last surviving human colony on the run from an evil robotic race in search of its mythical home world, Earth. The series was produced by Universal Television and Glen A. Larson and was first broadcast on ABC in September 1978. Starring Lorne Green, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict, this epic space saga went on to become a veritable sci-fi classic. Although only 36 episodes were created, Battlestar Galactica has enjoyed syndication success for the last two decades, most recently on the SCI FI Channel.

The original series will be released later this year on home video and DVD. In addition, a new Battlestar Galactica miniseries will debut on the SCI FI Channel in December. Currently in production, the miniseries is written by Ronald D. Moore (Roswell, Mission: Impossible II, Start Trek: First Contact) and directed by Michael Rymer (Queen of the Damned), with David Eick (American Gothic, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) and Moore serving as executive producers. The beloved Battlestar gets a modern twist when SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking series with stars Edward James Olmos (Stand and Deliver Oscar nominee, Miami Vice Golden Globe winner) and Mary McDonnell (Dances With Wolves) at the helm.
