In the latest Q&A session with the folks at
Diamond Select Toys, one of the questions asked is if we could ever see Masters of the Universe Minimates become a reality? The short answer is...NO! Apparently DST has contacted Mattel about doing them, but Mattel wasn't interested:

Hi agian Chuck. Had a quick Minimate related question for you. I recently saw that mattel is working with other companies to license out Masters of the Universe for products other than the traditional sized MOTU figures they make. Knowing that they’re willing to work with other companies, is MOTU something that you think DST might pursue ever inthe future? Also, do you personally think that MOTU would translate well into Minimate form? Once again, thanks for doing these and sorry you missed out on some heartfelt cookie thanks at C2E2.
DSTCHUCK: We have reached out to Mattel and they are not interested in working with us on Miniamtes for MOTU at this time. Yes sorry duties at the office and home kept me from Chicago – its one of my favorites cities!
