Last week we told you how NECA's new line of Mego style Django Unchained figures had been discontinued at the request of The Weinstein Co. after they had received complaints from the likes of Reverend Al Sharpton for being offensive due to the fact the movie they are based on deals with slavery. Basically they said the toys trivialized the horrors of slavery.
After that news broke, prices on the secondary market (specifically eBay) for these figures skyrocketed. Now according to
TMZ all auctions for these figures have been pulled and banned from the auction website. A email was apprently sent out to people selling the figures stating the following:
"Since the manufacturer of this product has discontinued the item’s sale due to its potentially offensive nature, we are not allowing it to be sold on eBay.”
eBay also cautioned the sellers not to re-list the items.
What do you think, should eBay be pulling these auctions, are these figures now considered illegal contraband? Does anyone really think that the selling of these figures on the secondary market will really cease when some auctions had these figures going for over $1k a pop?
