Starting with next January's
NHL 17 lineup, the Sports Picks NHL lineups will expand from four figures to six.
The four figures comprising NHL 17 (Toronto's Jason Blake, Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin, Washington's Alexander Ovechkin 2 and Buffalo's Ryan Miller) are completely sculpted and painted, so the production window to add new figures into the lineup was extremely tight.
With no time left to sculpt new players or poses, Todd examined our NHL Sports Picks library and targeted two figures that could be re-painted to expand the NHL 17 lineup, particularly in Canada where NHL sales are extremely strong. We are proud to announce the two additions to the NHL 17 lineup - retro jersey versions of Vancouver Canucks winger Trevor Linden and Quebec Nordiques center Joe Sakic.
Linden was originally available in our NHL 8 lineup in Vancouver's modern white jersey, but has never been available in the "winged skate" black jersey he wore as the Canucks charged to the Stanley Cup Finals back in 1994.
Joe Sakic was available as a Quebec Nordique back in NHL 5, but his NHL 17 figure is a repaint of his second figure. Sakic was the young captain of the Nordiques when the franchise relocated to Denver, where Sakic led the newly christened Colorado Avalanche to their first Stanley Cup back in 1996.
NHL17 is expected to arrive in stores in late January 2008.
