Taika Waititi is set to direct a new feature film adaptation of Judge Dredd, the well-known and violent British comic book character. Drew Pearce is on board to write the screenplay, with the production team including Dredd rights holders Chris Kingsley, Jason Kingsley, and Ben Smith from Rebellion Developments, along with Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment, Jeremy Platt, Natalie Viscuso, and Pearce.
The comic was developed in the late 1970s by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, with Dredd making his first appearance in the weekly British anthology 2000 AD. The narrative depicts Dredd as a law enforcement officer in the dystopian future city of Mega-City One, as part of a police force that empowers officers to serve as judge, jury, and executioner.
The character transitioned to film with a Hollywood adaptation in 1995, featuring Sylvester Stallone, and again in 2012, simply titled Dredd, starring Karl Urban.

Taika has worked with Karl Urban before. He could conceivably cast him in this, making it an unofficial sequel to the Adi Shankar produced Dredd movie.

Of course Dredd should be funny, as well as depressing and serious. Have you read the comic books? It's a satire on life.
I'll wait for a trailer before committing to an opinion. Waititi is hit or miss. He does comedy and drama fantastically (except when he goes overboard on comedy), and this has the potential to be violently funny... but I'm not sure that's the tone I associate with Dredd or something I'd like to see ?
This is going to be terrible. He's good at comedy. Dredd should not be funny
Honestly, this pisses me off. Why are we not getting a sequel to the phenomenal last one?? Why do we need a third one?
