I think the blue one looks better. I'll pass on the red.
So I ended up seeing this in store, and I couldn't say no, I had to get it, it's pretty rad, and I'm weak.
I opened the figure and his Leg flew off, any one else have this problem?
that is now 2 McFarlane figures in recent times I've had the leg come off after I opened it (the first being Batman Hellbat Armor)
what they hey Todd!
Mandarin Spawn, for a time, was one of my all time favorite mcfarlane toys figures ever. I had a few of the variants and just loved it. This new one I was kind of excited for, an articulated version of that awesome sculpt?! count me in! But something about the final product just doesnt feel right and doesnt grab me like I thought it would. It just isnt that exciting when its all said and done. Its got some cool details and things but i dont know cant put my finger on it. It does have smaller bits it looks like tho.
This is an every growing examplewhere the regular version looks better than the exclusive, in McFarlanescase.
I'd never hear of Mandarin Spawn before the blue version of this figure was announced, but man I love this design. I like the red more like I thought I would so I'll definitely be getting it at some point.
I still think I like the original version from years ago more, maybe it's what Satam mentioned and the lack of black wash. I just think there is something about this figure that's not really doing it for me, I would have thought I'd be really eager to get this but I'm not all that impressed, sure it's good, but just good.. it feels a bit souless. I think I'm going to wait for Todd to give us some supporting characters for spawn before I need more alt. spawns, maybe it just doesn't feel "spawn" enough for me. The older version also just had so much more detail and the construction was just so much more, how is there less effort in 2021 then in the late 90s ?
This guy desperately needs a wash on more than just the chest. The sculpt is intricate, and there's a lot of detail that just isn't being brought out. The horns on the side of the head are kind of silly, too.
