McFarlane Toys DC Super Powers Sea Saucer & Bat Multicraft Collector's Crowdfund With Reduced Funding Goal Now Moving Forward

The McFarlane Toys DC Super Powers Sea Saucer & Bat Multicraft Collector's Crowdfund is now moving into production as it's minimum funding goal has been reduced from the original $600,000.00 goal to $145,000.00. As I report this the campaign has achieved $151,313.00 in funding.

The campaign began back on July 17th with an original end date of August 8th. Then when the campaign was no where near it's minimum funding goal of $600k it was amazingly extended until August 22. I say amazingly because anyone could see the extension wasn't going to be enough to get it to it's goal. Now the campaign not only has had it's original funding goal significantly reduced, it also has had the ending date extended for a second time to August 30th.

Some have said Todd McFarlane told people at SDCC that if this campaign didn't meet it's $600k funding goal they would still move forward with production on these items for those who backed it, and that seems to be what has happened. The original date extension was possibly so they could get their Medieval Spawn Kickstarter launched and funded before just totally changing the conditions of this crowdfunding campaign. The Spawn Kickstarter had a much lower funding goal of $100,000 which it quickly surpassed in the first hour of going live yesterday. Todd has also said his Spawn figure has already gone into production before the campaign even started.

I am very happy that those who wanted these items will be able to get them, however it's very apparent both this and the Spawn figure didn't really need to be crowdfunded and they could have simple just gone with a pre-order or made-to-pre-order model to get these items made and out to the public. To me it's pretty clear the use of the Crowdfund model for these items was more a marketing gimmick than anything. People who backed these campaigns likely won't care very much as long as they get the items they want which is totally understandable, however it definitely to me comes off a bit misleading. Hopefully in the future Todd will just forgo the whole Crowdfund marketing gimmick and offer these items directly to the public as a pre-order or made to pre-order.

I'm still clearly missing why this needs to be crowdfunded. Also why is Aquaman in black boots and long hair?? He had black boots in the 60s cartoon, but not this hair. And I don't recall any version of Robin with that particular outfit.

There's something very unsettling about Robin with no pants but long boots

Last wave I have seen locally until a couple days ago was the deathstroke wave. But now a couple of the newest Batman variations and the newest Superman variation are here. Nothing in between

The Metamorpho and Killiwog waves sold pretty well near me, but there is a ton of John Stewart GL and a couple of Nightwing in clearance.

my Walmart dropped the whole line

I would have liked the Manta sub (if anyone is getting rid of just that I would be interested)

Walmart is amazingly inconsistent store to store. We still have these on the shelf but not a single turtle of grayskull in MO

They are all just peg warmers in my area. There's still several from the first wave still hanging at all 3 local Walmarts, and the vehicles all got put on clearance for $10 because they weren't moving.

I see new figures all the time. Our Targets are just now getting the Guy Gardner wave and Walmart has had the Blue Beetle and wave before that for a while. The crowdfund is for the vehicles only because the vehicles dont do as well as the figures but they are part of the line so it wouldnt be SP without them. The figures always sell out at Walmart and Gamestop. The first two waves stuck around for a while but the line took off once interesting characters hit. The line is up to 40 figures and 8-10 vehicles not including this Kickstarter.

What a joke this guy had to cut this down to under what it was already at just to make it find. I could go for hours, Todd has got to be the most out of touch guy in this game. I'm praying for the day he loses the dc license.

Have to agree. Its such a let down....a lot of us figured that of all the companies and teams out there, THIS guy really got the whole superhero comic thing down. But he's fallen prey to ineptitude, laziness and greed like any other. I am a total Batman fan yet of all the Batman figures I have, none of them are McFarlane. I have a Mr. Freeze and an Azrael (red). Also have the Superman Unchained armor figure. I just find his figures for the most part to be crude, rushed and cheaply done (though he sells them at outrageous prices). I too long for the day that someone, ANYone else gets the DC license.
