I am perplexed to keep reading that Super Friends has replaced the Batman '66 retro line by McFarlane. When Batman '66 was announced, Todd personally promised to make all of the TV show's villains. While he certainly has produced more than previous toy companies that have made a line based on the old TV show, many collectors had hoped that the line would continue for awhile longer. When the pink cowled Batman showed up, everyone expected the Mad Hatter would be released since that version of Batman appeared in a Mad Hatter story arc. Shame, False Face, Archer, Siren, Black Widow, Louie the Lilac, & Minstrel were other villains that were on the most requested list along with Mad Hatter. We never got a proper street clothes figures of Bruce Wayne & Dick Grayson to tie-in with the Wayne Manor Library playset either.

Perhaps someone at McFarlane will move forward on the Batman '66 retro line before they lose the license. If not, maybe Mattel will pick up the line going forward to complete the rogues gallery from the TV show.

Alas, it looks like incomplete lines will be the legacy, as seems to be the norm with these companies.

Can't even order right now due to Mcfarlane shipping calculator not functioning properly.

It's working properly now.

I still prefer the DC Direct ones from 20+ years ago. They capture the cartoon nostalgia more for me and the paint apps of old are much stronger than the print on ones. But I do appreciate that the line is expanding here. They gotta get through the basics of baddies and buddies, plus Wonder Twins. I would love sets for Hall of Justice and Legion of Doom, even just a giant computer screen for the Friends and the big table for the Legion.

What stands work best for this line? The peg holes in the feet seem really small for normal stands.

Cheetah and Toyman are the obvious stand-outs, but I'll get them all.

This might seem like a weird nitpick, but it's disappointing they went with the full yellow logo on Flash's chest instead of the yellow/white split. The only reason Flash's circle was sometimes yellow in the show was just due to basic art inconsistency that was endemic to 70s & 80s cartoons. It wasn't an active choice in the character design, it was the colorists going off-model (most likely as a time-saving measure). The active choice on McFarlane's team to just go full-yellow to save 2 cents per unit just shows how the cheapest route is often the only route they consider.

It would be great to have more Batman 66 but what about Batman 77?

Loving this line and terrified it will end too soon! I got the first 6 and will be getting these 6 as well, but that leaves a lot of questions. Can McFarlane squeeze out at least 3 more waves before the license expires? That would at least complete the original AND Evil Super Friends, with Wonder Woman, Robin and Aquaman and each of their evil counterparts. Based on the 6 figures per wave, and with 2 being a main/evil, that leaves 12 spots to fill up the Challenge of the Super Friends rosters. Grodd & Grundy need to be bigger, which may or may not be an issue, and then there's Giganta and Apache Chief...do they just go with the normal size versions, or add/swap for bigger ones? Too many hopes...too many questions. And I have not even brought up the likes of the Wonder Twins, El Dorado, etc. That may be too much to hope for, and just not enough time. Still, I'd be thrilled to have some kind of COMPLETE Challege...Super Friends shelf, which would be a crown jewel in my collection.

Superman looks like James Mason. Too bad. Was looking forward to that. Toyman and Cheetah look good!

That doesn't look like the animation at all.

I am wondering if it is just the angle of the photo. The photo looks almost like it is from below as apposed to head on or above, so it might look better at a different angle. Kind of hard to tell.

Also, Hanna-Barbera cartoons had a habit of making the characters faces look slightly different from frame to frame so I can see it being a bit tricky to nail it perfectly. I almost wonder if it would have translated more accurately if they had used an old 40s or 50s comic book version of Supes face to try and make the sculpt from for this

I think I will have to see it in person before I am sure I dont like it.
