SDCC Notes: DC Comics (And Imprints)
DCU...
- Matt Wagner will be writing and drawing a 12 issue maxiseries, Batman: Dark Moon Rising.
- David Lapham will also be doing a year long stint, on Detective Comics. Lapham will write and provide covers, Ramon Bachs will be handling the interiors.
- Following War Games, Judd Winnick will be returning to writing chores on Batman, with Doug Mahnke on art.
- DC will launch JLA Classified, a series of short storyarcs and rotating creators.
- Grant Morrison will be writing the first JLA Classified arc.
- Gail Simone's JLA story is also likely to appear within JLA Classified.
- Joe Kelly and Ariel Olivetti's 6 issue Space Ghost project is slated for November, with covers by Alex Ross.
- Ale Garza will be taking over the art chores for Batgirl starting in November.
- Bob Harras will write Breach, a new monthly series, with art by Marcos Martin and Alvaro Lopez.
Vertigo...
- Recent DC exclusive signee Bruce Jones will be doing a new Deadman series, a fresh take on the character.
- Jason Hall and John Watkiss will be teaming for Trigger, a creator owned series.
- Also kick off a new series (5 part mini) will be Gary Phillips and Shawn Martinbrough on Angel Town.
- Neil Gaiman's novel, Neverwhere, will see a 9 issue comic adaption this November, by Mike Carey and Glenn Fabry.
- Brian Azzarello, writer of 100 Bullets and Superman, has signed DC exclusive for 3 years.
- Added to Brian Azzarello's expected schedule will be Loveless, with Marcelo Fusin.
- Regular Vertigo titles Fables and Hellblazer will both see original graphic novels.
- Also on the OGN front will be Warren Ellis and Colleen Doran's Stealth Tribes, Brian K. Vaughan and Niko Henrichon's Pride, and Sloth by Gilbert Hernandez.
- The next "Manga Vertigo" project will be Jill Thompson's Deadboy Detectives.
Wildstorm...
- The first issue of Authority: Revolution, a 12 issue maxiseries written by Ed Brubaker and drawn by Dustin Nguyen, will hit stores October 27th.
- Revolution is expected to cover a lot of the characters' past, as well as the ramifications of Coup D'Etat.
- Howard Chaykin will launch a 6 issue miniseries titled City of Tomorrow.
- DC will be teaming with British publisher IPC to bring the latter's stable of characters to America. Alan Moore and daughter Leah will write, Shane Oakley and Sandra Hope will provide art and Dave Gibbons will round out the team on covers.
- Leah Moore will also be doing a series called Wild Girl for ABC, with John Reppion and Shawn McManus.
- The Jim Lee and Joe Casey co-created project, The Intimates, is still on the schedule, with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli.
Humanoids...
- Butch Guice has signed a 3 year exclusive deal with Humanoids.
- Several American creators are or will be working on projects for the French publisher, including Olympus by Kris Krimminger and Geoff Johns, Redhand by Kurt Busiek, CrissCross on Embalmber, Chuck Austen's Flywires and the "Project Formerly Known as Coraline" with Terry Dodson.
- Humanoids' new deal with DC will allow these books to see faster Stateside publication, and in some cases simultaneously, if not sooner, than their French release.
