Seven Soldiers: Guardian #1
When DC first announced Seven Soldiers, I had no idea what to think. I did know for sure that I did not want to miss out on this event. So I took a chance and purchased Seven Soldiers #0.
I found myself liking #0 a lot. I felt it was very original and a rare one of a kind story. So I signed myself up for all of the Seven Soldiers titles. The next one up was Shining Knight. Again, I didn’t know what to think of it at first until I read it. I fell in love with the story right there. Shining Knight was one of the best comics I read this year. In fact I’m begging for the next issue. So now here we are, and the latest one out is Seven Soldiers: Guardian. What did I think of it?
Guardian was a great read. It wasn’t really as mind-blowing as the Shining Knight or #0. I still found myself quite interested. It is hard not to be when a guy gets the skin ripped off his back within the first few pages.
The main story deals with Jake Jordan, who has applied to be the Manhattan Guardian. Now what is the Guardian? To make a long story short, the Guardian is a reporter who fights crime while reporting. I know it is bizarre but it is better then it sounds.
Now Jake’s first mission is already a weird one as Pirates are in the subway. Getting weird yet again but you have to admit, it isn’t what you would expect. As Jake gets to the subway he finds that his family is in the middle of the chaos.
The overall story was interesting. When I compare it to Shining Knight #1 it isn’t as mind-blowing. I’m still waiting for #2. Seven Soldiers so far has not disappointed.
Grant Morrison continues to impress me. His writing is just so unique in my opinion. I honestly can’t wait for the Zatanna issue coming this April.
Cameron Stewart was a great pick for this title. His art gives you the Manhattan feel.
For those who have not been following the Seven Soldiers comics, I suggest trying out at least one of the mini series titles. So far this is looking like a great series. I give Guardian #1 a 8 out of 10 here.
