This month we bring you Barney Google, sports and gambling aficionado, seen in comic strips and animated cartoons since 1919. In 1926 Barney was joined by sidekick Spark Plug, a ragged racehorse, inspiring a full-length strip and more detailed plot lines. Eventually Barney ran from the law into the Kentucky woods, meeting up with Snuffy Smith, who became the focus of the strip.
