Wizard and WizKids Join Up For Wizard World HeroClix Invitational Events!

Beginning in February of 2005, WizKids and Wizard Entertainment team up to take HeroClix to a whole new level of gaming excitement! Starting with an exciting kickoff event, the Wizard World HeroClix Invitational Series will begin its inaugural run worldwide!
The events will occur in four three-month cycles each year, culminating in an epic championship at each of Wizard’s popular Wizard World conventions. Each event cycle consists of three levels of competition: a local event, a regional event and the culminating championship event. Winning a level of competition automatically places a player in the final rounds of the next level of play. Prizes for each event will vary, including such items as prize packs of Limited Edition figures, complete figure sets of HeroClix expansions and event-exclusive participation prizes, while supplies last.

Players already familiar with WizKids Premiere Events should be comfortable in this new tournament cycle, as Pre-Release and other exclusive events provide the foundation of the regional level events!

The final level of competition will occur at four Wizard World conventions in 2005 (Wizard World Los Angeles, Wizard World East, Wizard World Chicago, and Wizard World Texas), where instead of a “World Championship” tournament, players will participate in the culminating event of each cycle, featuring some of the coolest prizes ever offered – including the champion’s choice of a one-of-a-kind Master Piece figure from the most recent expansions (provided no other champion chooses the same figure!)

Q: Who can hold local level Wizard World Invitational events?

A: WizKids-Approved Venues can sign up for these events in the same way they can sign up for any other WizKids-offered event, while available.

Q: What do I get for winning a local Wizard World Invitational event?

A: You automatically advance to the final rounds of the regional event, and you get cool prizes, including some of the most-sought Limited Edition HeroClix figures!

Q: If I do not win a local event, can I play in the regional event?

A: Yes! Anyone can play in any level event. However, those who win their local event get an Invitation to advance directly to the final rounds of regional play.

Q: So regional events are going to be Pre-Release events?

A: Not every regional event will be a Pre-Release event, but many will be! Not only can you enjoy the camaraderie and fellowship of a large-scale WizKids HeroClix Pre-Release event, but now you have the option of advancing to the next level of competitive play in that event cycle!

Q: What do I get if I win a regional event?

A: Prizes will vary, but will likely include complete figure sets for the HeroClix set being released, and other high-level prizes. Regional level winners may also be eligible for free admission to the Wizard World convention in that event cycle!

Q: If I do not win a regional event, can I play in the championship event?

A: Yes! Anyone can play in any level event. However, those who win the regional event automatically receive an Invitation to the final rounds of play at a championship event.

Q: About this Master Piece prize – I can pick any character I want?

A: The figure must have been released in the 12 months prior to your championship victory. And you cannot chose a Big Figure or a Convention-Exclusive figure; the figure must have been available either in a Starter Set or a Booster Pack. Otherwise, you can choose anyone you’d like – and if no one else chooses that figure, you will have the only one in the world!

Q: OK, will there be other prizes!

A: Yes! Prizes will again vary, but might include complete figure sets and other high-end HeroClix and general comic collectables.

Q: So, are these events specific to a certain HeroClix Universe?

A: In the case of Pre-Releases, yes. Otherwise, these events are simply HeroClix events, and you may use any figure allowed in active tournament play in these events.

Q: So the format will be constructed?

A: The format will vary from event to event; obviously Pre-Releases will be determined by the most recent set and will be sealed events. Each event, when announced, will have details about the format.

Q: Will there still be participation prizes for these events?

A: Absolutely, while supplies last.
