Hi, Chuck, thanks for answering my question about the decision to produce a Klingon phaser over the Phaser III. I completely understand your reasoning. If you make nothing but Kirks and Spocks, people will complain that they want villains, yet if you produce villains, some will wish for more Kirks and Spocks. :| My question is this, have you ever considered taking an online poll? For example, what if you let fans and collectors of your fine products vote on what they wanted to purchase from you next? In the case of the Trek Tech line, you could put the Klingon phaser or the Federation Phaser III. It would be fun for us to vote on our “dream products”, and it would give you valuable (and free) market research into the products that your purchase market would most like to see, (and be most likely to plop down hard earned cash for). It seems like an idea that would benefit everyone, as well as making things fun. What do you think? :)

DSTChuck: Based on all the market research we have done online polls are not effective. Look at it this way…IF you have a million fans that like Star Trek then how many collect or are interested in product? 50% ok of that 50% how many go online and look into the product (not just see in a store) 50%, ok of that 50% how many would go to a specific site we’d do a poll on 10%. Check with admins of sites, of that number how many click into stories 50%, ok how many click into the poll 50% of that many how many even bother to vote? From one million your down to 1,500 and I’ve never seen an online poll with that many voters – have you? Now from there let’s divide the vote by the top 3 selections, so you’re looking at 500 deciding the item to be made that has to have a production run of over 40K..We’re aware that fans like polls and feel connected to companies that do that but it’s just not something that seems practical to us…sorry.

Hey I had a few questions if you could answer please I’m a huge fan of the retro Star Trek line I saw pictured from Toy Fair that Vina , salt vampire , pike , and nurse chapel were going to be made . There are others id like to see made but besides the four that I hope to see made …. I want a Rand. Id also like to get all figures in mirror universe attire . Kirk, Spock McCoy, Uhura, Scotty, Sulu and Chekov.. make some generic red shirts. with phasers. two pack them. id also like to see a talosian , and a neptunian , Kor , Koloth, Sarak, other crew members but make more aliens. ? also the new Munsters line will there be a series two.? The universal monsters retro figures will there be other figures besides mummy Frankenstein, Dracula and wolf man?

DSTChuck: Brian, I think the sales for the retro cloth line for Trek are slowing but that might be because we have not had any product out there for a while – so we’re going to take it one wave at a time. We are planning for a second series of Monster and are hopeful the first wave will do very well. We’ve already made Frankenstein and Wolf man and series two this Halloween is Dracula and Mummy.

A lot of people have expressed interest in the ST III phaser & I’m certainly 1 of them as it’s my favorite design. But have you considered the communicator & tricorder from ST III & V? Their designs would enable you to re-use the body shells & electronics from the TOS props. You’d only have to change the controls & the communicators’ lid since even though it was the same size & shape it had different surface detailing. Thanks.

DSTChuck: To be honest Daryl we take it one at a time with this stuff so to say “Consider” of course we have considered just about everything but there is nothing new to report anytime soon- at least until the ones we’ve already announced are ready to ship.

Many thanks for answering my question/opinion. I still really don’t understand why your not having much success with Star Trek - You’ve thrown us some duds like wonky legs, delayed release times and dodgy electronics but I mean in this world there are two Hollywood franchises that define Science Fiction, Star Wars and Star Trek. How is it that retailers aren’t buying? Have you considered doing something like Matty Collector and using your online store facility along with links to it on sites like Facebook and trek toy forums to get the figures fans really want out there? MOTU was not doing well at short-sighted retailers but it’s going great guns online. It would be fantastic if DST could get their Star Trek product out there, especially high quality figures from ALL of the TV series like the Borg wave. Even something like the Doctor Who 11 doctors box set would be awesome - but successful where many Trekkers reside…. ONLINE!!!!! I can’t see why you’re hesitant to at least try and push your own product on your own.

DSTChuck: David, our website and staff are not geared for direct to consumer sales and neither is our staff. We’ve done a little of it from time to time with Buffy and BSG when they were going very well but had pretty poor results. As for how Matty is doing, I am not privileged to see their financials or business plan so I can’t say if it’s successful or not.

Hello..Will the TWOK communicator come out be available by June 2011 ? Separately, I would like to kindly ask you to continue the role play toys and strongly recommend Star Trek III Phaser (never made as a toy replica) or phaser from TNG, Voyager or a better Tricorder…still think a laser tag type of phaser game would be neat. thanks

DSTChuck: The TWOK communicator is on the water from the factory so it should be in stores end of April / early May.
