According to Variety, Universal has secured the movie rights to video game God of War, created by Sony Computer Entertainment. Mosaic Media Group's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will produce the feature adaptation.
Set in ancient Greece, vidgame follows the battles of the warrior Kratos, who tackles mythological beasts including Medusa, Cyclops and the Hydra. Players navigate Kratos on his quest to find Pandora's Box and destroy Ares, the god of war.
The game, created by David Jaffe and Shannon Studstill, was released in March.
Mosaic has not yet attached a scribe or helmer to the project.
"We've been enthralled by this project since our first time playing the game in March and realized its narrative had great potential for large-screen production," Roven said.
