LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Filmmaker Kevin Smith will be honored with the first-ever DVD Visionary Award at the Video Software Dealers Association's (VSDA) Home Entertainment 2004 in Las Vegas.
"In addition to creating works that reflect his deeper understanding of the complexities of work, relationships, religion, and family, Smith exhibits his commitment to his fans by creating some of the best supplemental materials available on DVD," says VSDA President Bo Andersen. "His commentary and extra footage is full of humorous anecdotes and allows the viewer to have a closer look at the filmmaking process."
"Clerks," Smith's 1994 breakthrough film, will be released as a special ten-year anniversary version, "Clerks X," in the fall. The Miramax Collectors Series 3-disc DVD set will include the original theatrical version of the film, an extended cut made for the Sundance Film Festival and a new documentary. The critically acclaimed film centers on two convenience store clerks and the daily minutiae of their lives.
Smith is also known for "Mallrats," "Chasing Amy," "Dogma," "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" and the recent "Jersey Girl." His films are characterized by verbose dialogue, edgy humor and frequent appearances by friends Ben Affleck, Matt Damon or Jason Lee.
The Home Entertainment event will be held at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino beginning Wednesday, July 14. For more information, visit
